The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel in Florida has become the first destination to develop an interactive digital ecological calendar. The calendar, known as AWAKEN, is syncable to smartphone, Google and Outlook calendars and alerts users to over 100 of the regions unique ecological cycles.
Those who sign up to AWAKEN will receive alerts throughout the year of the 100 plus natural seasons and migrations found in The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel. These range from the turtle nesting season to the best time to spot the elusive Florida panther. The alerts contain images, dates and locations for visiting each phenomenon and are sent a few months before the event starts, in order to drive visitors.
AWAKEN has been created to inspire users of the destinations natural beauty and ecological diversity. The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel is full of nature reserves and sanctuaries, protected areas and wetlands such as the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and Caloosahatchee Regional Park and is home to unique species such as X and X.
“Awaken clearly speaks in the voice of a destination that treasures and preserves its natural assets,” remarked Tamara Pigott, Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau executive director. “The ultimate goal of this unprecedented project is to showcase our area's many sub-tropical aquatic eco-systems with the hope that this visual exploration will inspire visitation and continued support for environmental protection.”
AWAKEN is now live on www.fortmyers-sanibel.com.
