The Avon Gorge Hotel Gives A Dog A Home

Avon Gorge

A GIANT Gromit has taken up residence in one of Bristol’s most iconic hotels. Overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the 5ft tall fibreglass character stands proud on the terrace of the hotel’s White Lion Bar.

The Gromit installation is part of a innovative public arts trail, called Gromit Unleashed, organised to raise money for The Bristol Children’s Hospital. http://www.gromitunleashed.org.uk/

This summer Bristol is going to the dogs with 80 fibreglass Gromits being ‘Unleashed’ along a trail that runs throughout the city from 1 July to 8  September.

Wallace & Gromit creator and Grand Appeal patron Nick Park is closely involved with the initiative and has designed one of the sculptures on the trail himself.

General Manager Guillaume Lesage, from The Avon Gorge, said: “We are extremely proud to be part of Gromit Unleashed!  We really think our Gromit will have the best view of all overlooking the Suspension Bridge and the city of Bristol.

“I think this is a fun way to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital and we are delighted to be involved. Gromit will be arriving on July 1. We hope he likes the view!”

Families from across the UK are expected to descend on Bristol this summer to follow the Gromit Unleashed Trail.  Invited artists and celebrities including fashion designer Paul Smith, Cath Kidston and Sir Quentin Blake have individually designed each sculpture.  Local artist Lindsay McBirnie has decorated the Avon Gorge Gromit.

The fibreglass dogs have been cited at top city locations. At the end of the summer, they will  be auctioned off  to raise funds for the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal at The Bristol Children’s Hospital.

The Avon Gorge is a perfect home for Gromit as it is a dog friendly hotel. Dogs are welcome in all public areas of the hotel as well as in guest bedrooms at no extra charge.

To celebrate the arrival of Gromit, The Avon Gorge has launched the Gromit Unleashed Trail Package. Rooms starts at £149 for two adults and two children and include bed, breakfast, a Gromit Unleashed Passport plus a picnic for the family to enjoy while out on the trail.

The Avon Gorge will also be serving special Gromit shaped biscuits to guests enjoying morning coffee or afternoon tea. Selected dishes on the menu in both the White Lion Bar and the Bridge Café will also be earmarked as Gromit’s Favourite Dishes – these dishes will result in a donation being made to The Wallace & Gromit appeal every time they are chosen by a guest.

Rates at the Avon Gorge Hotel start from £99 per room per night on a B&B basis. Guests travelling with dogs are kindly requested to notify the hotel in advance by calling 0117 9738955.  For more information on Gromit at the Avon Gorge Hotel please visit www.theavongorge.com
