Mariposa, Calif. – The Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club welcomes visitors to an afternoon of fine art and wine tasting on Saturday, May 28, 2016. The historic Mariposa County Courthouse in the heart of Mariposa is a perfect setting in which to enjoy local artists' works while tasting great foothill wines.
The fun kicks off at 11am and continues until 5pm in the evening. Entry to the event is free but for $10 attendees will receive a commemorative wine glass and 5 tickets to enjoy different tastings at any of the featured wine booths.
Among the many local wineries featured will be Silver Fox Vineyards, Casto Oaks Winery, Cardella Winery, and Rauch Ranch, and at the beer booth Sierra Cider will be offering a taste of their locally grown apple ciders.
There are 33 artist booths on display covering a broad range of artistic mediums - painting, sculpture, pottery, beading, jewelry, woodworking, photography weaving and texture art. Some of this year's featured artists include Jon Addison Cox, a local glass blower who also is a notable painter. His works will focus on various historic and scenic places around Mariposa County. Jackie Braxton will also be offering unique art featuring masks and taxidermy that are one-of-a-kind originals inspired by Native American stories and American frontier scenery and landscapes. Perennial favorite Penny Otwell will be working on a plein air piece at the event and will have her works available for sale. Her iconic style is well-known in the Yosemite area and can also be found at the Ansel Adams and Tree Top Galleries.
Get there early to join the raffle containing regional prizes and cash giveaways. The raffle will begin at 1:00pm and continue throughout the afternoon. Tickets are $5 for six tickets, $10 for fifteen and $20 for fifty. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available throughout the event. This event is a fundraiser for the Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club and is planned with assistance from the Mariposa Arts Council.
