- PrivateFly's latest quarterly report shows Friday at 11am was the most popular take off slot
- 11% of private jets were booked to fly same day, with the fastest 'go now' flight only 54 minutes later
- 15% of private jet passengers were children
Many of us can relate to that Friday feeling. And latest data from PrivateFly reveals late morning on a Friday as the most popular take off time for private jet travellers, with spontaneous same-day flying more popular than ever before.
PrivateFly's new report gives a snapshot of booking and flying behaviour for its private jet customers, over the third quarter of 2016. The report is a regular, quarterly publication by the global private charter booking service, which has over 200,000 unique website visitors every month.
The latest edition of the infographic report, entitled Private Jet Charter Trends, reflects the period July to September 2016 (Q3) and its findings include the following:
- 11% of flights booked for a same day take-off (compared to 8% in Q2) and over half to fly within a week. The fastest 'go now' flight took off just 54 minutes later.
- London, Nice and Ibiza were the top three destinations with Cannes, Mykonos and New York also very popular.
- More flights included children, who accounted for 15% of passengers.
Carol Cork, marketing director and co-founder of PrivateFly comments: “The popularity of Friday as a departure day illustrates how leisure use of private jets soars in the summer months in Europe. As does the fact that a significant number of our passengers were children, travelling as part of a family group.
"While we always fly customers at short notice, this quarter we saw even more spontaneous flights that usual – including one 'go now' flight that took off less than an hour later.
“Customers can choose their departure time and 11am is very popular year-round. As passengers need to arrive no more than 15 minutes before take-off, this gives a useful 'window' beforehand – whether that's at work or otherwise – and with the average private jet flight time of around two hours, they arrive in time to have the whole afternoon at their destination.
“The leisure demand boost also drove a shift in the destination mix. London is always the industry-wide most popular private jet destination in Europe, in any season. But over the summer months we saw Nice and Ibiza out-fly usual the business aviation hubs, such as Paris and Geneva. ”
