15 Nov 2016
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and if you're lucky enough to be enjoying a city break in New York, London or Paris when the big day falls on 24th November, or if you're a local yourself and want to celebrate, we thought we'd let you in where to find the best Thanksgiving dinners.
The lowdown from our American locals across the globe is that back home in the US, they'd be spending Thanksgiving at home with their families, cooking together (or maybe being thrown out of the kitchen for interfering), watching a football game and feasting on traditional goodies aka eating too much. Although cooking at home brings a more authentic and personal touch, we know you don't all have that luxury, so if you want to try a Thanksgiving meal check out our picks for where will be serving up some of the best as recommended by our locals! We can't guarantee an open fire, relatives shouting at the tv or that you'll find a quiet corner to grab a quick post lunch snooze but at least the food will be spot on!
London
The Riding House Café
We reckon The Riding House Cafe will be the closest you'll get to a really authentic thanksgiving meal in London. Their thanksgiving feast (and it is most definitely a feast) will be served family style, so you can all dig in and help yourself to extra maple-buttered sweet potatoes or sausage and cornbread stuffing and not be shy with the gravy. Not that you would be. They've got all the classics covered using only the best quality produce, from roasted Norfolk Bronze turkey to pumpkin brûlée pie, but expect a couple of twists that will elevate your thanksgiving meal into something really special; truffled mac and cheese anyone?
The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is always a popular choice for Americans in London who might be missing the taste of home at thanksgiving. They have ten branches across the city, so wherever you are you're never too far from a pumpkin pie. Their three courses are good value at £28, and since it's not served family style and you won't be up to your eyeballs in gravy or be lulled into a food coma, you can continue on your merry way afterwards without needing a little nap!
Paris
Joe Allen
This brasserie is a little bit of New York in Paris, making it a perfect choice for thanksgiving on the wrong side of the pond (although how could it be wrong if you're lucky enough to be visiting Paris!). They will be serving roast turkey, candied yams and cranberry sauce, but lest you forget you're in Paris their menu also features a few French classics so you can mix it up a little and kick of the feasting with a starter of foie gras. Check out the menu and book here.
Le Saint Martin
Just next to Canal St Martin is this classic French bistro, who for 364 days of the year stick to pretty traditional cuisine. But! (There's always a but). On the 24th they'll be whipping up a traditional Thanksgiving meal of roast turkey, mash potato, green beans and pumpkin bread, and the best bit? If you want to stay in, watch the football and truly embrace being able to eat your way into a socially acceptable food coma, you can order your feast to go! Just make sure you put an order in before the day itself, you can find details here.
New York
Bubby's
Bubby's is a Manhattan favourite for low-key, good old American comfort food. They use seasonal produce and meat sourced from small, in state farms to whip up classics from burgers to pies, pancakes to bbq platters and everything in between. So we reckon they know what they're doing for Thanksgiving, and it's no surprise that they'll be offering up some of the best home style roast turkey, green bean casserole and cornbread stuffing in the city. But the best bit? 25% of the proceeds from your Thanksgiving feast will be donated to the New York City Rescue Mission to help New York's homeless. We couldn't think of a better way to give thanks and give back.
Rosa Mexicano
Visiting New York, want to experience thanksgiving but fancy putting a little twist on it? We've got you covered. For a Thanksgiving meal with a difference, head to one of Rosa Mexicano's joints (there's three, you can find details here), and get swept up in their Thanksgiving Fiesta! We're thankful for tacos, guac and margaritas every day of the year so what better place to spend thanksgiving? Indulge in pumpkin soup garnished with pomegranate, tortillas filled with pulled roast turkey or ancho roasted turkey served with cranberry salsa, plantain stuffing and mole xico, all enjoyed while you sip a blood orange and cranberry margy. Sold, we'll see you there.

About CityUnscripted
Launched in April 2016, CityUnscripted is an authentic and personalised travel service offering immersive city experiences as well as planning and booking tools to help travellers get to know a city through the eyes of a like-minded local. The service connects travellers who want to be discoverers and not tourists with locals in the know for bespoke experiences that uncover the best aspects of a city and help them to connect more deeply with the city through its people.
The company is primarily focused on its community of inspiring locals, promoting the ethos that they help travellers 'say goodbye to tick-box tourism' and 'unlock the city with a like-minded Local'.
CityUnscripted offers three distinct services: the flagship product 'Book a Local' as well as, for London, ready-made tours and the TripPlanner – and are working with several leading accommodation companies and hotel brands including Underthedoormat.com, Marlin Apartments and Oasis Collections.
About Book a Local
The Book a Local service allows visitors to explore a city with a like-minded Local who will plan a personalised outing based on their interests. Book a Local helps visitors get away from scripted tours; instead, their Local can guide or give advice like a friend would.
The quickly expanding Book a Local service is available in: London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Bologna, Amsterdam, Berlin, Edinburgh, Manchester, Tokyo, New York and San Francisco with more cities to follow in the coming months.
CityUnscripted works with a network of 100+ Locals in London with 500+ Locals in other cities globally. Locals are aged from 18-60+ years old and are collectively fluent in 25+ languages. CityUnscripted's community of Locals have a wide range of interests and backgrounds and they work as Locals in their spare time because they love to meet new people and share the city they know so well.
The Book a Local system allows visitors to review detailed profiles of each Local, before selecting the person that matches their preferences and a date and start time. Locals can then create a personalised itinerary based on what you want to see and do or give advice or insight into their city, making the city more real and human rather than a checklist of attractions. The service is completely trustworthy, safe & secure, as each Local is individually vetted, verified, insured and trained by the CityUnscripted team. Bookings start from £30 an hour for 1-2 adults, children are free.
