IHG® (InterContinental Hotels Group) has today announced that nearly 130,000 colleagues from its hotels and corporate offices around the world came together to join in its inaugural Giving for Good month.
During the month, IHG colleagues were invited to make a positive contribution through volunteering, doing their bit for the environment, or doing something extra to take care of their health and wellbeing. For each colleague that took part, IHG contributed funds to one of 11 charity partners of the colleague's choosing, donating a total of US $400,000 over the course of the month. IHG's list of charity partners was specially curated to support causes that tie closely to our business, including building skills and education in the hospitality industry and providing aid when disasters strike.
A truly global effort
From the food kitchens of Atlanta and beaches of the UAE, to the Swiss mountains and rivers of China, nearly 130,000 of our people took part in activities to make a positive difference to their communities and those around them. Working together, over the month IHG colleagues achieved:
- More than 125,000 hours of volunteering
- More than 23,000 donations of food and belongings
- Almost 4,500 blood donations for those in need
- More than 38,000 acts of care for the environment
Keith Barr, Chief Executive Officer, IHG, commented: “I am incredibly inspired by the thousands of colleagues that came together to join in our first Giving for Good month. A passion to help and care for others is at the heart of all we do and central to our promise of True Hospitality for everyone. I am proud of the dedication shown to the worthy causes we supported around the world. With more than 5,500 hotels in almost 100 countries, we are in a unique position to make a real difference on a global scale and in our local communities.”
True Hospitality for Good
Launched earlier this year, True Hospitality for Good is IHG's new flagship programme for communities and charitable giving. Giving for Good month, which took place in September, is just one component of this programme. It gives colleagues a greater say in how we support important causes around the world, as well as more choice over which charity partners we support, more opportunities to volunteer and more funding from IHG.
