Tenerife�s most challenging sport event of the year is set to take place this weekend at the newly-opened Siam Park, Costa Adeje. The Tenerife Champions Cup will be hosting the best of Europe�s beach volley ball players and many cheering supporters are expected to attend the three day tournament.
England�s Beach Volley Division will be represented by two of the European Federation�s top players, Jody Gooding and Robert Miedzybrodzki, in this Official European Volleyball Confederation Competition. Other participating countries will be represented by their best National Federation teams; Spain (Herrera and Mesa/ Lario and Gavira), Germany (Reckermann and Urbatzka), Russia (Koshkarev and Prokopiev), France (Ces and Ces), Italy (Giontella and Nicolai) and Poland (Fijalek and Prudel).
The English players will start the tournament competing against the Spanish team at 12 pm on the 3rd October and will then compete against Poland on the 4th. The prestigious Tenerife Champions Cup trophy, along with a winning cash prize, will be given to the European Champion after the Grand Final on 5th October.
The Tenerife beach volleyball tournament is already a key sporting event all over Spain but aims to become an internationally-recognised competition in the coming years. The event will be broadcasted both regionally and internationally, on TVE (Spanish National Channel) and Eurosport. A press conference will be held at the Amphitheatre, Siam Park on 3rd October at 12 pm for the international media that will be present at the event.
A VIP reception at the Sheraton La Caleta Hotel for the players and representatives has also been arranged along with other parties before and after the competition. Activities and games will be set up to entertain children during the course of the event.
Not far from last year�s competition venue, Fanab� Beach, is Siam Park, the very latest addition to Tenerife�s excellent leisure facilities and event venues. A composition of a stadium with a central stage, promotional stands, VIP area, federation area, press centre, changing rooms and with magnificent scenery surrounding the 9.500 square metres of white sand, Siam Park will welcome spectators to this lively and eagerly awaited championship.
Siam Park is ideally located in the warm Costa Adeje in south Tenerife and has just opened its doors to offer a plethora of exciting Thai-themed attractions. The 8 participating teams will be divided in two groups and will all compete against each other. The best two teams of each of the two groups will compete to win the Tenerife Champions Cup 2008 and �10.000 cash prize.
The competition is organised by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Confederation and the European Volleyball Confederation and sponsored by Canary Islands Government, Tenerife Government, Tenerife Tourism Corporation, Adeje Town Council and other organizations.
