Technology helps. So do people. On 28.7.2020, Vili Beros, the Minister of Health of Croatia, presented the Corona app "Stop Covid-19".
At a time of greatest uncertainty, Minister Beros and his staff at the Headquarters for Civil Protection of the Republic of Croatia with competence and calm have led Croatia to the top as one of the countries with the lowest numbers of new infections since the outbreak of the Corona crisis. This was also the basis for the diplomatic mission to open the borders, with "EnterCroatia" to make entry as safe and easy as possible, to bring hygiene regulations for the tourism industrie, training and support in the tourism sector...
The New York Times wrote on 10 May 2020: "Europe's battle-hardened nations such as Croatia and Greece show resilience in the fight against the virus. These are countries that have taken early action to stop the outbreak, generally supported by the cooperation of citizens, who have been spurred by recent harsh experiences of war or financial disaster."
We know there is no physical health without mental health. Many EU citizens have their property or yacht in Croatia, many have already booked their holiday and ultimately we must learn and deal with the new circumstances.
The tourism industry, a very well-rehearsed „game“, now with completely new rules and little time. Many countries and jobs depend on tourism. Every guest counts. The fight has begun. Not only the one against the virus. Like stock prices, country cards flash in green, orange, red. Instead of weather forecast, we look at which color which country has today and possibly tomorrow.... the statistical explanation sometimes illogical, headlines in a different tone, "news" sometimes even a year old...
But the "Corona charts" speak for themselves. Even in high season.
After more than 170 years, tourism in Croatia has long been not just an economic activity. It is also friendships, part of everyday life, exchange, enrichment, relationships...
People may seem a little more relaxed, and this is also part of the holiday feeling, but the attention to the new circumstances, especially in the tourist regions, is permanently increased. A Croatian proverb says: "A healthy person has a thousand wishes. A sick only one". This idea also applies to tourism in Croatia in 2020.
