Sichuan and Shanghai cuisines are popular styles of Chinese food, with the former famous for its bold and spicy flavours and the latter distinguished by its sweet and rich taste. This September and October, New World Millennium Hong Kong Hotel's Chinese restaurant Tao Li is featuring a series of Sichuan and Shanghai delicacies to impress diners' taste buds.
Sichuan cuisine is acclaimed for its diversity in tastes, with prominent traits of spicy, hot, fresh and fragrant. Spicy food buffs may try out Sautéed Chicken with Garlic and Chilli Sauce, where the fragrant and spicy flavours of garlic, dried chillies, facing heaven chilli and chilli oil are perfectly infused into the soft and juicy boneless chicken. Another worth trying Sichuan dish is the Sichuan Style Poached Sliced Chicken with Chilli Sauce, a signature Sichuan delicacy with tender chicken meat, which delivers a slightly spicy yet tongue-numbing sensation.
Shanghai cuisine, well-known for mellowness and with intense flavours, is characterised by an abundant use of soy sauce, sugar, rice wine and vinegar. Not-to-be-missed classic Shanghai dishes include Braised Minced Pork with Shredded Conpoy, Vegetables and Oyster Sauce, deep-fried minced pork balls poached in supreme stock and Shaoxing wine, as well as the luscious Scrambled Egg White with Shredded Conpoy, which is a perfect combination of crabmeat, egg white and conpoy.
Other recommended dishes include: Tea Leaf Smoked Duck; “Tan Tan” Soup Noodles with Spicy Peanut Sauce; Simmered Whole Fillet of Bullet Fish with Chilli Sauce; Sautéed Fresh Shrimps; Shark's Bone Soup with Jinhua Ham, Shrimp Dumplings and Chicken and more.
