Take A Trip Back With Scotland's Time Lords

Our Dynamic Earth

This Easter sees the launch of an exciting new gallery at Edinburgh’s five star visitor attraction, Our Dynamic Earth, which takes the story of planet earth to a new dimension.

Scottish thinkers and scientists are revered as architects of the Enlightenment and many are renowned the world over.  One who should be celebrated is James Hutton, widely regarded as the father of modern geology, whose work in defining the age of the earth influenced not just Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, but generations of scientists since.

Dynamic Earth’s new ‘Scotland’s Time Lords’ gallery will use the full might of creative technology and interactive exhibits to entertain and educate visitors on Hutton’s history and his discoveries that have shaped modern day Earth science thinking.

Visitors will see Hutton himself brought to life and engaging in conversation with his followers – Charles Lyell, Arthur Holmes, Ben Peach and John Horne – all men of science whose thinking has resonated over centuries.

'Scotland's Time Lords' will celebrate the legacy of one of Scotland's most influential scientists, and showcase his important achievements in the city of his birth.  The new £900,000 gallery, part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, will open on 1 April 2014.
