Visitor numbers to Singapore look set to increase as the country recently legalised gambling and announced plans to open two casinos by 2009.
Holidaymakers that dont want to wait that long can head off to a number of exotic destinations around the globe to hit the roulette tables. Travel consultants at Flight Centre recommend the following places for those wanting to place a bet on their next holiday:
LAS VEGAS, USA The gambling capital of the world Las Vegas made its name from its glittering casino lights in an otherwise barren desert landscape. Since the state of Nevada legalised gambling in 1931 it has become a mecca of pure entertainment with hundreds of casinos and the opportunity to gamble 24 hours a day, enough to satisfy even the hardened gambler.
Flight Centre is offering a three-night package to Las Vegas from 549 per person for travel from 1 27 June. The price includes accommodation at the 3* Imperial Palace hotel in the heart of the Las Vegas strip and return flights from Gatwick with Delta.
ATLANTIC CITY, USA The USAs second most famous gambling city is a slightly jaded version of its once grand former self when it was a playground for the rich and famous. It is still worth a visit though to walk on the worlds first boardwalk and sample some of the best nightlife on Americas east coast, including its many casinos and gaming outlets.
Flight Centre is offering flights to Philadelphia, which is only around an hour from Atlantic City from 399 with KLM from Heathrow via Amsterdam on selected dates in June. Accommodation is available from 68 per room per night at the B W Center City hotel.
MONTE CARLO, MONACO Monte Carlo is Europes answer to Las Vegas albeit on a somewhat less grand and much more refined European way. Well-known for its casinos and the annual Formula One Grand Prix that hits the streets every May, this tiny principality manages to sustain its aura of glitz and glamour.
Flight Centre has flights to Nice from 119 with British Airways from Heathrow and bed and breakfast accommodation is available at the 3* Ambassador hotel close to the Monte Carlo casino from 118 per room per night on selected dates in June.
MACAU, CHINA Macau is a pretty colonial town with a European feel because of its Portuguese heritage. It is only an hours jetfoil ride from Hong Kong and since the peninsula was given back to China in 1999 it is the only place in the country that people can gamble. It is therefore a popular excursion from Hong Kong for those that fancy a flutter.
Flight Centre is offering flights to Hong Kong from 375 per person with KLM from Heathrow via Amsterdam for travel up until 14 July. A three-night accommodation package is available from 99 per person at the 3* Wharney Hotel and includes airport transfers.
