Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces, Indus Tours And Indiatourism Unveil A Feast Of Contemporary Indian Art

Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces

Gallery Sumukha Art Exhibition In Residence At The Quilon, Buckingham Gate, London 8th 19th February 2006

Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces, Indus Tours and IndiaTourism are delighted to reveal a new generation of Indian art here in London. A feast of talent, courtesy of Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore will be exhibited at The Quilon, SWI from 8th to 19th February 2006.

On Wednesday 8th February a special preview night will be attended by esteemed artists Manish Pushkale, Laxma Goud & Rayis Komu. Each bring vivid experiences of their native country to the table; Pushkale who portrays the Jainist sect through abstract form; Goud through his teasing erotic depictions of middle class situations and Komu through boundary breaking installations.

During the event, highly acclaimed artist and curator, Balraj Khanna will appraise this powerful collection in dialogue with Art Historian, Savita Apte.

Guests will also have the chance to take a piece of art home, by bidding in a live auction of paintings by Laxma Goud and Paresh Maity. All proceeds will be donated to support art education for one deserving overseas student in the UK.

The Gallery Sumukha exhibition explores the consciousness of modern India, with 27 artists contributing their own perceptions of this ever evolving and intoxicating culture. Indias rising social economy, religion and class hierarchy are represented through graphic print, expressionism, cubism and abstract form. Also consistent throughout each work is a sense of pride in Indias rich heritage defined through varied mediums of copper relief, watercolour, acrylic and oil the combination of which makes for a truly powerful visual impact.

It is only fitting that Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces a brand which is inextricably linked with the preservation of Indian heritage, should join forces with specialist Indian art tour operator Indus Tours and IndiaTourism to pioneer the growth of a new art generation.

Art lovers can also further their knowledge of India through dedicated painting tours in Rajasthan and Southern India, offered by Indus Tours. Launching from November 2006, guests embark on a 14 day trip, accompanied by acclaimed artists from the U.K. Interpreting the palaces of Rajasthan or the lush backwaters of Kerala, there will also be an opportunity to view private art collections, meet with artists in residence and privately tour the Taj properties all of which showcase collections of fine antiques and intricate interiors.

The Feast of Indian Art exhibition will be showing daily at The Quilon, from 10am to 7.30pm.
