Taiwan Tourism Bureau

The lively metropolis of Taipei is set to continue becoming the in-vogue city destination for 2015 thanks to its growing popularity and a host of awards. Skyscanner recently revealed Taipei as one of the must-visit travel destinations for 2015, with Lonely Planet also naming Taipei as a 'best value destination' for next year. With the mixture of breathtaking scenery, gourmet food, and interesting culture – it's no surprise Taiwan is becoming an attractive option for those looking for a unique travel destination in Asia.

Popular hotspots to visit in the city include: the Shilin night market where visitors can sample the best of local delicacies including grilled chicken hearts, and oyster omelettes. The city also boasts fantastic culture; the National Palace Museum is bursting with the world's most complete collection of ancient Chinese artwork. And for those looking for exemplary shopping – Taiwan has a range of options including designer shops to open-air markets. Also, fast becoming the destination for soft adventure travel – visitors looking for an escape from the city should head for Yangmingshan National Park for a unique hiking experience.

Skyscanner listed Taipei in fourth place in its annual round-up of the world's top destinations, stating that the city is perfect for those 'looking for a slice of Asia away from the usual backpacker crowds and honeymooning couples.' Similarly, Lonely Planet praised the capital mentioning that the street food is the 'main attraction' as 'it is accessible to all, whether tucking into dumplings at a street stall or enjoying high-end fare at lower prices than comparable cities.'

With Skyscanner revealing that there has been an average annual increase in global searches of 56 per cent for Taipei alone in 2014 – next year looks set to attract even more inquisitive tourists to the city.
