Sydney Hosts Hostelworld Ultimate Race

Destination NSW

More than 100 backpackers from across the globe have competed in Hostelworld's Ultimate Race to discover Sydney's best backpacker experiences.

The all-day event saw teams of ten representing Sydney hostels, traverse across the city, competing in fun and interactive challenges to test their mental, creative and physical skills.

Participating in the race were three winners from the Hostelworld #sendmetoSydney competition who travelled to Sydney with support from Destination NSW.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase congratulated the winners of the Send Me to Sydney competition and said Sydney was a fitting location to host Hostelworld's Ultimate Race.

"As the gateway to Regional NSW, Sydney is a vibrant city with fantastic events, spectacular beaches and attractions and some of the world's best bars and restaurants,” Ms Chipchase said.

“In the past financial year NSW welcomed more than 1,000,000 international youth visitors and we're delighted to support Hostelworld in this promotion,” she said.

Commencing at Bondi Beach, the backpackers travelled to Watsons Bay, took to the harbour with Oz Jet Boats and competed in challenges at Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.

The race visited many iconic landmarks, travelling through the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and culminating in teams arriving on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.
