SwimTrek, the world's largest open water swimming holiday providers, have released 2020 departures for one of its most popular tours; the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. This special trip gives guests the chance to enjoy this bucket-list, iconic destination with a unique twist – by offering the opportunity to observe this incredible biodiversity site from the perspective of the water.
Running since 2017, SwimTrek's adventure swimming trip around Ecuador's famous islands has grown to become one of the company's most popular and sought out holidays and it is easy to see why. There's the opportunity for guests to enjoy swimming alongside volcanic craters and discover remote islets and secluded bays. It's perfect choice for those who love to explore and immerse themselves in their surroundings as guests have the chance to swim with wildlife such as seals, sea turtles, marine iguanas and manta rays. There's also the opportunity to explore the islands on land, where guests can take in the striking landscape as well as enjoy one of the highlights of the trip; getting up close to giant Galapagos tortoises where they roam free in the highlands.
The 2020 departures will see guests enjoy the chance to see many sides of the Galapagos as the trip is based across two hotels. At the Posada del Mar in Puerto Ayora, the Galapagos Islands' most populous town, enjoy a busier citylike atmosphere. Then escape to the beautiful island of Isabela and the coastal charm of Casa de Marita, where the accommodation backs directly onto a pristine sandy beach.
Now heading into their fourth year of running trips in Ecuador, SwimTrek's tours are led by highly experienced guides. Many have several years' experience of guiding swimming tours specifically here in Ecuador, with guest's safety and enjoyment always the highest priority. Guests will also be joined by a local naturalist guide who will be able to help identify and teach them about the incredible flora and fauna they'll come into contact with on this special trip.
Senior SwimTrek guide Ricky Andrews, who has led tours to the Galapagos with SwimTrek since they first began, has a special love for these remote islands. “Exploring the islands with the local guides is an unforgettable experience. I remember doing my best to avoid the Marine iguanas that will sprawl themselves on the pavement, and seals taking their rightful places amongst the benches in the prehistoric landscape. At times, the swimming turns to snorkelling for there is way too much to see. A pod of bottle-nosed dolphins even joined our swimmers for an entire afternoon's swim. From interacting with giant tortoises to eating lobster in the Puerto Ayora street market, this trip's got the lot. Some say it's a once in a lifetime, but I'd go back and do it all over again.”
SwimTrek is running its iconic Galapagos Islands swimming holiday from January to March 2020. Prices start from £3,490 per person based on a sharing room. Packages include a fully guided swimming holiday (including a certified local naturalist guide), 6 nights' accommodation, and all breakfasts and lunches. Flights and evening meals not included.
