SwimTrek Announces Its Return to Arizona for 2017

SwimTrek

SwimTrek is heading back to the States for its sophomore year, returning to the stunning Salt River Lakes of Arizona following its launch of the 'River Canyons – Arizona' trips in 2016. Our unique package offers stunning lake swims alongside the iconic cliffs and canyons of Arizona's Tonto National Forrest. Experience this stunning savannah in the desert from a different perspective; the unique view from the water. Join us on our only week long tours in America for 2017 and let SwimTrek take you to our own wild west paradise just outside of Phoenix.

The River Canyons – Arizona trip is an offering unlike any other SwimTrek tour. Set in the rugged cliff sides the run alongside the Apache Trail, our seven-day escape sees us making our way down the Saguaro Lake, Apache Lake and Canyon Lake in a truly unforgettable adventure in America's Southwest. Ideal for the swimmer who enjoys the smoother waters of inland rivers, the steep lakeside cliffs, and taking in the views on scenic drives and exploring by foot, Arizona provides the perfect backdrop to a SwimTrek retreat.

With the added options of tubing down the rivers, horse riding and exploring the stunning grounds of the Saguaro Lake Ranch, you can enjoy stunning panoramic view of the surrounding Bulldog Cliffs and marvel at the vast star lit skies if you're lucky enough to catch a clear night. You may also catch sight of the great birds that frequent the areas, such as hawks, ospreys and eagles.

Senior SwimTrek Guide Marlys Cappaert lead the inaugural Arizona trip in 2016. It is a trip close to home and heart for her;
“This trip embraces the expanses of the Western frontier. Set deep in the canyons of the Tonto National Forest the swims traverse the Salt River water project. Swimming through fresh water encased by tall canyon walls affords a special opportunity. The landscape is dramatic and the wildlife unique. A different experience to a Mediterranean or Indian Ocean SwimTrek, you are more likely to encounter bald eagles, wild horses, coatimundi or desert big horn sheep. The landscape is rich with the giant Saguaro Cactus which are only found in the Sonoran desert. These magnificent plants are the largest cacti in the United States, can grow to 60 ft tall and live up to 200 years.

While the trip provides a remote experience, it's easy to travel from the Phoenix AZ airport to our hosts at the Saguaro Lake Ranch, a very comfortable, historic western ranch. As with all SwimTrek trips, there is no better way to experience a special environment than by swimming your way through it”!

SwimTrek is running its 'River Canyons – Arizona' trips from September to October in 2017. Prices start from £1900 for a twin cabin. Packages include guide lead tours, full safety vessel cover, accommodation and all meals.
