Sydney, 1 May 2023 – InterContinental Sydney is setting the stage for an extra special Mother's Day this May with a decadent, newly launched high tea experience for people to spoil the special women in their lives.   

 

Following a $120 million renovation, the landmark InterContinental Sydney, has unveiled the new high tea experience in a new gastronomic venue in the grand lobby bar, The Treasury. 

 

Redefining traditional high tea   

High tea has long been a favourite Mother's Day tradition and the InterContinental Sydney has enjoyed a long history of serving one of the country's best, against the backdrop of history and heritage richly woven into the hotel.  

 

Served in The Treasury, the new high tea experience draws strongly on the established rituals of high tea, while weaving in thoughtful botanical influences as a nod to the property's unique surroundings.  Seamlessly designed to bring the outside in, high tea guests sit amidst lush green displays and plant life inspired by the adjoining Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens, as they savour a menu sprinkled with Australian native flavours such as lemon myrtle and pepperberry.  

 

A rich selection of savoury offerings are paired with decadent desserts and a thoughtful selection of organic loose leaf teas by artisan teamaker Mayde Tea. Guests will also enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, savoury tarts, a mixture of fruit and traditional scones and a range of sweet treats from meringues to parfaits. 

 

Specially designed vegan and children's menus are also available with the same level of thought, care and expertise woven into their development and execution by executive chef, Matt Hart and his world-class pastry team. 

 

InterContinental Sydney's General Manager, Jennifer Brown said, “High Tea is steeped in centuries old tradition and InterContinental Sydney has a long history of delivering one of the country's best traditional high tea experiences. This new experience builds on this long established reputation but takes it one step further incorporating modern notes in line with the hotel's new look and narrative. This is the same standard you would expect from the luxury and historic brand but reflects The Treasury's seamless ability to blend the old with the new.”  

 

“While we have sought to incorporate a strong botanical influence, High Tea at the InterContinental Sydney will always stay true to tradition and ritual, so classic favourites like finger sandwiches and scones are still front and centre on the menu leaving purists to continue the age-old debate on whether the jam or cream goes on first,” she said.  

 

High tea is served from Thursday to Sunday between 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The classic and vegan menus are priced at $89pp (Thursday and Friday) and $99pp (Saturday and Sunday) and include a glass of sparkling wine and tea selection. Children's High Tea is $45pp and includes a three tier stand and drink. Gift vouchers are also availble. 

 

For those looking to make a weekend of it, the InterContinental has also unveiled three new premium suites, which include the Presidential Opera Suite, Royal Opera Suite and Governor Opera Suite.   

 

Alternatively, the hotel's refreshed Club Rooms offer access to the hotel's new Club InterContinental lounge located within the property's reimagined rooftop space.
