Events to Promote Sports, Culture and Tourism in the Mexican Caribbean
Cancun, MEXICO - Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences, with resort properties in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, Mexico, has announced five important destination events it will host in 2014 to promote recreation, culture and sports in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, strengthening the tourism offering in the region and offering unique experiences for its guests.
With over 26 years in operation and more than 1,000 suites in six hotels, the tourism group has created an annual event tradition and success story. The 2014 Sunset World event schedule will include:
• Fourth Annual Hacienda Tres Rios Triathlon, May 18
• Second Annual Sunset Pop Culture Fest, June 16-20
• Seventh Annual Charlie and Friends Half Marathon, Aug. 30
• Third Annual Hacienda Tres Rios Tibetan Festival, Oct. 10-12
• Third Annual Sunset Boat Parade, Dec. 6

The first event of the year, the Hacienda Tres Rios Triathlon, will feature 450 competitors who will have an unforgettable experience of swimming in the ocean and one of the few rivers that exist in the Yucatan Peninsula, running on a white track through a Mayan forest and riding a bicycle through the endemic vegetation of the Tres Rios nature preserve. The sprint format triathlon will include 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of biking and 5 kilometers of running, with categories for men, women and youth. First, second and third place awards will be presented in each category.
The 2014 Pop Culture Fest, also held at Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Spa & Nature Park, will offer big surprises for guests, tourists and the local community with a program full of unique, original and significant culture with the best Mexican folklore and traditions. Offerings to include workshops and samples of tequila, mezcal, and pulque, gastronomic seminars, contests, Mexican "lucha libre" wrestling, live music, DJs, art and much more.
This year's Charlie and Friends Half Marathon, taking place along Blvd. Kukulcan in Cancun, is expected to surpass last year's participation of 1,000 runners. Event categories include 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 5 kilometer walk and run and a 3 kilometer baby carriage race. The event is open to the public and also features live music, as well as healthy and physical fitness seminars.
The return of the Tibetan Festival in October to Hacienda Tres Rios will celebrate the ancestral cultures of Tibet, including its history, people, foods, arts and crafts. The unique event will again provide a unique experience for guests and the local community.
The Sunset World Boat Parade in December, the company's last event of the year, has become popular with hotel guests and locals to celebrate the start of the Christmas season in the Mexican Caribbean. A parade of multi-color boats, decorated in holiday lights and holiday themes, depart from the Sunset Admiral Yacht Club & Marina, sailing along Laguna Nichupte.
