If 70 miles of beautiful beaches and near-perfect climate are not enough, visitors to San Diego can find a variety of new attractions this summer. Amusement Parks, street festivals and fairs, theatre performances and museum exhibitions all add to the appeal of San Diego as the perfect summer vacation destination.
During Night time Zoo the World-Famous San Diego Zoo stays open daily until 9pm (guests may remain on the Zoo grounds until 10pm) between 3-23 September, 2001. Guests can "stay up late" with the animals. Nighttime Zoo offers a view of the Zoo under moonlight and mood lights. Nocturnal animals are up and active. Evenings also feature a variety of musical entertainment from all over the world, magicians and storytellers. Night time Zoo also includes Close Encounters of the Zoo Kind in which visitors experience surprise encounters with animals and their keepers.
Visiting the Wild Animal Park, early morning adventurers can enjoy the Sunrise Safari, from 1-31 August. Beginning at 7:30am, guests can start the day with an expedition into the Heart of Africa and encounter animals along the route. The park's Roar and Snore Campovers allow visitors to spend the night overlooking the plains of East Africa and its inhabitants giraffes, rhinos and antelopes. Campers enjoy hiking, stories around a campfire, meals, listening to animal sounds and up-close encounters with a variety of animals.
Sea World San Diego, famous for Shamu, the killer whale, offers numerous shows and marine life exhibits. Its newest attraction, Cirque de la Mer, treats guests to a fanciful vision of whimsical, half human/half sea creatures performing spectacular cirque-style acts on a beautiful water stage along Mission Bay. This first-of-its-kind fantasea adventure includes athletics, acrobatics, music and special effects, with a grand finale of dazzling daytime fireworks.
Sea World's new Trainer for a Day program allows guests to experience the thrill of being a Sea World animal trainer, getting an up-close glimpse of one of the world's most glamorous and challenging careers. Participants can spend all day with dolphins and killer whales, training and caring for them.
In addition to exciting parks there are numerous free and wonderful activities to enjoy in San Diego. Travellers can take part in Summer concerts in the park throughout San Diego County, enjoy La Jolla Concerts by the Sea each Sunday, stroll through the historic Gaslamp Quarter, or just watch the sunset on the ocean, as sea lions frolic in the water.
