- One in three Brits name wi-fi as a holiday must-have
- Three quarters never enjoy a 'screen-free' holiday
- One in ten say 'screen-time' is a modern getaway essential
It used to be all about the sun, sea and sand…but now staying connected is up there too, as wi-fi is named a modern holiday essential.
According to research from holiday experts, Eurocamp, one in three (32 per cent) of us say wi-fi now tops our list of travel essentials – ahead of time in the sun, or sampling delicious food – and one in ten (10 per cent) rates screen time as vital for a successful getaway.
The majority of Brits are now choosing technology over traditional games for staying entertained while in transit, with 52 per cent refusing to go anywhere without a tablet.
The research, which polled 1,000 Brits found almost three quarters of us (71 per cent) never have a screen-free break, with the average family taking three devices away on holiday and a fifth of us (19 per cent) taking four. A further 11 per cent have tried and failed to holiday without their hand-held tech.
Those living in London and the North West are the biggest addicts with 42 per cent of Londoners and 37 per cent of those in the North West admitting they need wi-fi to be happy on holiday.
Chris Hilton, Eurocamp's Head of Marketing, said: “At Eurocamp all our parcs have Wi-Fi access, which we've seen a growing demand for in recent years. It highlights how important it is for people to remain connected, even on holiday so they can keep in touch with friends and family and share experiences as they're happening. We strive to provide great memories people want to share – whether that's spending the day at the beach, relaxing by the pool complexes, learning to swim, eating out or trying new activities such as archery or cycling.”
