Summer Summer Summer Time In Antigua And Barbuda Essential Dates For A Fun Packed Summer In The Twin Island Destination

Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority

Renowned for its 365 beaches, stunning tropical landscapes and quiet retreats, Antigua and Barbuda is also the ideal destination for anyone wishing to venture beyond their deckchair thanks to a summer activity calendar to suit all tastes.

Running from 27 July to 6 August 2013, Antigua’s Carnival dubbed, “the Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Festival” is one of the destination’s most prestigious annual and lively events. A true celebration of life, the Carnival, is a great chance to experience Antiguan culture at its best.  Join the brightly costumed revelers as they party through the streets of St. John’s, and enjoy the pulsating calypso and soca music. Talent is on full display as steel bands, soca and calypso artistes as well as talented teens compete for crowns amongst the Carnival Royalty www.antiguacarnival.com.

Summer is also the ideal season for any nature lover with the opening of the Hawksbill Turtle watching season which runs from July until October. Run by the Antigua Environmental Awareness Group, the tours involve participants journeying to an offshore island in the still of the night and silently observing the hawksbill turtles nesting in their natural habitat.

The local cuisine is one of Antigua and Barbuda’s key attractions and the fabulous gastronomy comes to life during the Seafood Festival in August 2013. Festival goers can tantalise their tastebuds with the fabulous range of seafood on offer including lobsters, conchs and crabs. There are many food related activities to choose from during the festival including a fishing contest for children making it a fun day out for the whole family. Fish lovers should also not miss Seafood Fridays that takes place at Copper and Lumber in Nelson’s Dockyard every Friday during the summer.

Fruit lovers are also in for a treat when they visit Christian Valley in August for The Mango Festival, the perfect opportunity for visitors to purchase famous locally produced mangoes and a great array of mango products. End the perfect day in the Caribbean sun with a mango daiquiri within the beautiful surroundings of Christian Valley.
