London, 17 July 2017. With the long-awaited series seven of fantasy drama Game of Thrones finally here, many fans will be planning to go into hiding for the next seven weeks. However, for those who still want to get away for a summer holiday, the NH Hotel Group has come up with the perfect solution for die-hard fans. With much of the filming taking place in Spain, why not combine a quest to discover some of the series' most memorable locations with a relaxing break at one of NH Hotel Group's nearby properties?

From King's Landing to the Water Gardens of Dorne, take the ultimate Game of Thrones tour with NH Hotel Group:

Seville

Few Game of Thrones filming locations are as memorable as Seville.  The stunning UNESCO-protected Alcázar of Seville, the 10th-century palace, has been used as the Water Gardens and Palace of Dorne at Sunspear, seat of House Martell. Just 15 minutes' away is the stylish NH Collection Sevilla, which combines contemporary design with the superb comfort and the best in local and seasonal cuisine.  Many of its 252 elegant rooms offer incredible panoramic views across the city.

Just an hour outside Seville is the Andalusian town of Osuna, whose bullring - the Plaza de Toros - was used as the Daznak fighting pit in Meereen, site of spectacular battle scenes and the escape of Daenerys Targaryen on one of her dragons.

Barcelona

Less than an hour outside Barcelona lies the town of Canet de Mar, home to the 11th century Castell de Santa Florentina which represented Samwell Tarly's home, Horn Hill, in series six. Described as one of the “most beautiful houses in the world” by Architectural Digest in 1998, it served as a fortification against pirate attacks.  The five-star NH Collection Gran Hotel Calderón was completely renovated in 2016 and is located minutes from the city's major landmarks and shopping districts. The hotel's interior design pays tribute to avant-garde Barcelona, with 255 stylish rooms, while the lobby features a 56 m2 LED video wall and a spectacular rooftop terrace with pool delivers magnificent views over the city.

Valencia Region

The Valencia region, with its striking mountains and 632 km of coastline, has played host to several Game of Thrones locations. The spectacular walled town of Peñíscola, whose castle was built by the Knights Templar in the 14th century is a popular film location -  including the epic El Cid, starring Charlton Heston – and has also starred as Mereen in Game of Thrones.

About an hour away, the NH Mindoro sits minutes from Castellón de la Plana's most popular attractions, shops and tapas bars. The modern 102 room property offers fantastic views across Castellón from its upper floors, as well as the Re-Levante restaurant from Michelin-starred chef Miguel Barrera and a stylish bar.

Almería Province

Another region that has featured as several Game of Thrones locations is Almería, in Andalusia. The semi-desert landscape of El Chorrillo Sierra Alhamilla and the Tabernas desert have seen them star as Vaes Dothrak and the Dothraki Sea, while the 10th century Alcazaba of Almería is another location that has represented the capital of Dorne. The NH Ciudad de Almería is perfectly located in the heart of the city, a short walk from the Alcazaba fortress. It has 138 contemporary rooms and a restaurant serving delicious Mediterranean dishes.

Cáceres

Cáceres in Extremadura is reputed to have been used to film scenes in the seventh series. The NH Collection Palacio de Oquendo, a converted stone palace dating back to the 16th century, is near to one of the entrances of the walled city. This historic hotel has elegant architectural features incorporated into 86 stylish, contemporary rooms, while guests can enjoy a memorable al fresco dining experience at the Restaurant Tapería, whose terrace overlooks Plaza San Juan.

Other Game of Thrones locations where NH Hotel Group has nearby properties include:

Córdoba – whose Roman bridge featured as the Long Bridge of Volantis, is home to the Hotel NH Collection Amistad. Made up of two 18th century palaces, it is located in the historic heart of city with a courtyard café, two open-air patios and swimming pools.

Guadalajara – whose Castillo de Zafra was the Tower of Joy, where the young Ned Stark fought in one of Bran Stark's visions. The castle is around one and a half hours from Zaragoza, where the elegant, 133-room NH Collection Gran Hotel de Zaragoza is located within walking distance of the best shops, restaurants and sights. Meanwhile, three hours from the castle is the NH Collection Suecia in the city of Madrid. Renovated last year, the centrally located hotel was previously home to both Ernest Hemingway and Che Guevara and has 123 spacious rooms and a rooftop terrace with views across the city.

Navarre – Bárdenas Reales has also starred as the Dothraki Sea.  NH Iruña Park in Pamplona is about an hour and a half from Bárdenas Reales and was totally renovated in 2016. It is located close to a Japanese-style park and features 213 rooms with great views and large windows.
