Summer Events at the Treasure Houses of England

Spend your summer at the Treasure Houses of England. With an exciting variety of events over the August Bank Holiday, plus plenty of family entertainment and thousands of acres of Formal Gardens and Parkland to explore throughout the holidays, the Treasure Houses of England offer something for all the family to enjoy.

New for 2016, discover Beaulieu's connection to Shakespeare with a range of special activities to mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death as well as a whole summer of Living History at the New Forest attraction. Bringing Beaulieu's heritage to life, Shakespearean courtiers will perform Living History conversations at Beaulieu Abbey, where there will also be falconry demonstrations  in the Cloisters and guided walks with Living History monks. Veteran and vintage vehicles, as well as a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang reconstruction will be driven around the grounds for photo opportunities.  Spot the rider of the Penny Farthing and enjoy singing and music in Palace House and fun and games on the lawns outside.

This bank holiday, don't miss the Blenheim Palace Festival of Transport, 28-29 August. Sunday 28th August will feature the Classic Car Show and Monday 29th August will include not only the Classic Cars, but also motorcycles, Minis and VW's, Customs, Hot Rods and Americans, Kit and Sports Cars. This two day event has the added bonus of vehicle judging and an experienced motor commentator to talk us through the day's events. This is a truly unmissable event for petrol heads and a great day addition for those visiting the Palace.

Beastly Boring Burghley Tours return this summer. Join them at 10.00am for a guided tour with a difference during the summer holidays. Led by costumed guides, find out all the grizzly gruesome and horrible history associated with Burghley and the people who have lived there. Your ticket will then give you access to the House and Gardens for the rest of the day. Each child will receive a free Beastly Boring Burghley Guidebook at the end of their tour. Plus, this summer get crafty at Burghley with the Summer Minibeast Craft workshops in the Sculpture Garden Classroom from 12pm to 4pm, 1st August to 26th August, Monday to Friday.

Join in the adventure at Castle Howard this summer with daily crafts, brass rubbing woodland trail, fairground rides and boat trips. Plus on selected dates join interactive adventure walks which bring the outdoors to life, children's wildlife photography, face painting, birds of prey and kayaking experiences on the lake.

Enjoy summer evenings at Chatsworth this August. From exploring the depths on the garden train and finding the perfect picnic spot to playing giant games at the maze, there is something fun for everyone. Dance the night away while musicians play in the Rose garden and enjoy the Laurent-Perrier Champagne Bar too. Flora's Temple will be open for tea, coffee, snacks and ice cream and the Orangery shop will be open for gifts.

Get hand's on this summer at Harewood's new Farm Experience. Meet the latest additions the animal family, from friendly alpacas, a family of pygmy goats to pot-bellied pigs, there's lots for young farmers to enjoy. There are opportunities to talk to keepers and to cosy up to giant rabbits too! That's just the start! Our old friends are still in residence. Head over to the Penguin Pool and see the Humboldt penguins newly remodelled home or stroll along the Lakeside path with an ice cream as bright spring flowers come into bloom.

Go around the World in 80 Days at Hatfield House on 28 August. Racing against the clock, Phileas Fogg and his valet Passepartout travel around the World by any means necessary to see if they can make it back to London in just 80 days! Enjoy the exciting musical adventure in the Elephant Dell. Featuring original songs, trains, boats, romance, sword fights and even an elephant, there is something for the whole family to enjoy. Bring picnics, low back chairs or picnic blankets to sit on to enjoy what promises to be an exciting open-air theatre experience.

Celebrate the 80s at Holkham Hall on Saturday 27 August!  The open-air concert with well-known  acts from the 80s that have enjoyed worldwide success will bring the south park to life. On stage will be the hit-making chart success acts of Level 42 with special guests Go West, Big Country, Heatwave, Jaki Graham and Nathan Moore from Brother Beyond. An exciting evening of entertainment and concertgoers will be on their feet with the party atmosphere.

Become a super sleuth this bank holiday at Leeds Castle as you join the Spy School, 27 – 29 August. Crack codes, decode ciphers and seek out spies who will help you on your mission.

Celebrate a 'Summer of Sport' at Woburn Abbey and Gardens. We have delved into our collections and archives, and borrowed some items from the Duke and Duchess, to create a series of interesting displays illustrating the Russell family and Woburn's close association with many different sports over the centuries. Children will be able to follow the 'Summer of Sport' trail around the Abbey, collecting answers to clues which make a password for a special prize at the end. There will be exciting challenges and clues to solve along the way. Find out more about the objects on display and discover some fascinating facts about the sports enjoyed at Woburn Abbey past and present.
