During this time, the Italian-Peruvian designers Carmine Furgione and Sandra have been working symbolically on the concept of the Andean cross or Chakana, as well as on the four elements of nature that identify the refurbishment of the hotel: fire, water, earth and air, the mainstays of the new image, now under the denomination of Luxury Hotel
When stepping in through the main entrance of the Sumaq, we are received by a shiny wood veneer panel with 520 gold-plated medallions; it is a one-of-a-kind piece that reminds us that history here is valuable and unforgettable. The refurbishment of the ground floor, where the lobby and front desk are located, has included the use of metals such as gold and bronze in the decoration of walls, tables and accessories, with a display of inca faces and keros in these rooms.
The rooms exhibit an exquisite sample of fine decoration made of wood, stone, ceramic, textiles and marble with warm colors and sustainable materials that provide unique comfort, while illuminating the beautiful lamps that display the same theme.
Another modification in the Hotel is the staircase that rises in the center, lined with vases abounding in flowers, leading to the second floor that hosts the restaurant Qunuq, implemented with elements that pay homage to the earth, a sublime recollection of the fruits that Mother Nature provides us.
Inside the walls of the second floor runs a modern-Andean work made of wood and lamb wool yarn dyed with natural colors, all completely hand-made and lighted directly with warm lighting. The furniture consists of chocolate-brown leather seats with gold-plated buttons. The marble and wooden tables have been embellished with the colorful caminos (lamb-wool blankets) in burgundy and mustard-yellow.
The walls of Qunuq Restaurant are now decorated with wood and ceramic pieces that exhibit the traditions and style of the Inca history. More than 300 pieces crafted by local artisans from Pisac. Meanwhile, the room displays beautiful crystal jars filled with Andean cereals such as corn, quinoa, chick peas, beans and others.
In addition to the innovations in the lobby, the front desk and the restaurant, the refurbishment work continued in the Superior Luxury bedrooms: The walls are lined with wooden panels and the lighting is warm, creating a pleasant sensation in a modern-Andean style.
The new bedrooms have a vertical mirror with wooden frame and gold appliqués. The headboards have also been worked in original chestnut color leather, with a double golden frame. The wardrobe, as well, has 3 bronze appliqués in the shape of a chakana.
The construction and implementation of the third and fourth floor of the hotel will follow in the next months with the same modern-Andean concept that forms part of the captivating history of the sanctuary called Machu Picchu.
