Strong Response to Dark Mofo in North-West Wilderness

RACT Destinations

More than 1000 people entered a ballot for the 57 rooms and 138 places available for the north-west coast's Dark Mofo event in the Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park in mid-June (Wild at Heart, 15 – 17 June).

RACT executive general manager, Tourism Adrian Sampson said he was not surprised at the event's popularity.

“We have been a long-time supporter of Dark Mofo and have seen first hand just how the festival has brought people out of the warmth of their homes in the middle of winter,” he said.

“Extending Dark Mofo into the wilderness of the north west coast was a fantastic idea and one we supported for the benefit of the region.  The way it has been embraced demonstrates just how keen people are to experience our unique wilderness areas.”

The Wild at Heart two-night sleepover event begins with a midwinter road trip to Cradle Mountain, with stops at Poatina and Sheffield, for a dusk arrival for the official opening of an exhibition by artist Ash Keating in the Wilderness Gallery.

The second day includes a camp buffet breakfast, daylight tours of Dove Lake and Waldheim Chalet and a dark banquet from UK culinary artists Bompas & Parr with “wild beasts” hunted and prepared by Ross O'Meara (of SBS TV program Gourmet Farmer).

Mr Sampson said the RACT would extend elements of the Dark Mofo event theme after the June Wild at Heart event.

“We have launched the Ultimate Glamping Experience that will be available from 17 June,” he said.  “It includes themed glamping accommodation, a tasting plate and bottle of wine, a Bompas & Parr cocktail, breakfast and entry into the Ash Keating exhibition.
