Stay Overnight in a Troll's Cave and Interact With the Legendary Creatures!

Trondheim and Trøndelag

Visitors to Norway can now meet, interact and even camp alongside trolls at the world's only research station for the troll species. 'Home of the Trolls' in Trollheimen, central Norway opened its doors to the public this week and allows families to search for the creatures, while participating in a range of outdoor activities!

Given they are normally invisible to the naked eye, it is perhaps unsurprising that trolls have fascinated people around the globe for thousands of years, featuring in films and even with their own series on Netflix!

For the first time ever, and thanks to the latest technology, visitors can meet the trolls who are rumoured to dwell in isolated areas of rock, mountains and caves in the region! For just 500 NOK (approx. £37) guests can borrow a troll detector from the troll lab which according to the centre, enables the detection, sight, and sound of trolls in their natural habitat. They then follow a marked hiking trail, where trolls are known to live and are alerted to the troll's presence via the detector!

Two hiking experiences are offered, one for smaller children, where they can interact with the younger trolls, and a second, longer trail for the whole family.

For the full troll experience, a limited range of camping options are also available. Where else can you stay overnight with trolls in a gigantic rock crevice nest, in a troll cave, a birds nest or in a hammock suspended on a mountaintop in the mighty Trollheimen mountains? The overnight camping options costs from 300 NOK (£22).

While on-site, guests can hire a canoe, cook over a camp fire, go fishing or swim in the on-site lake.

Working in collaboration with Trondheim's acclaimed Michelin restaurant Fagn, 'Home of theTrolls' have developed special pastries made with local ingredients and created their own Troll Brew in collaboration with Norway's popular Røros Brewery, both being served on-site.

Located around 2 hours' drive from the city of Trondheim, the experience opened on 17 June 2023.
