Stanton & Killeen is first Rutherglen winery to join Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia

Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia (UWEA) has welcomed Stanton & Killeen to its collective; the first winery from Victoria's Rutherglen region to join the UWEA family.

Famed for its production of premium muscat – a rich, sweet, fortified-style wine aged in oak barrels – the Rutherglen region is located roughly halfway between Melbourne and Canberra, in Victoria's high country. Stanton & Killeen is located within a short drive of several regional hubs including Wangaratta, Beechworth and Albury-Wodonga, along with the neighbouring King Valley which is home to fellow UWEA members Pizzini and Brown Brothers.

A family-owned winery dating back 148 years and seven generations, Stanton & Killeen is today owned and managed by mother-daughter team Wendy and Natasha Killeen, with a focus on Portuguese varietals alongside the family tradition of award-winning muscats, topaques, tawnies and vintage fortifieds.

Guests visiting the cellar door in Rutherglen can experience a private tour and guided tasting in the exclusive-access Solera Room which houses the historic aging barrels that make Rutherglen muscat famous. Lovers of fortified wine can taste the difference in the classification of muscats in the Muscat Blending Experience, then blend their very own bottle to take home.

For those keen to stay for a bite to eat, Stanton & Killeen partners with local caterers Savoy Truffle Co to deliver grazing hampers and picnics, and the cellar door offers a range of local cheeses and smallgoods for platters. The Private Tour & Tasting in the Solera Room includes a gourmet produce platter.

Kate Shilling, Executive Officer Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia, said the team was thrilled to welcome one of the founding wineries of Rutherglen to the collective. “The Rutherglen region produces some of Australia's most famous fortified wines and is making a name for itself with Portuguese varietals. To have Stanton & Killeen on board is an exciting diversification of our collective experiences,” said Shilling.

Wendy Killeen, Managing Director Stanton & Killeen, said she and daughter Natasha are delighted to be accepted into the UWEA fold. “We have followed UWEA for some time now and have been impressed with its philosophy, brand strength and its winery members.  We look forward to building strong relationships with the UWEA team, our member colleagues and future wine lovers,” she said.

The addition of Stanton & Killeen brings UWEA's total collective to 29 wineries and Victorian membership to eight, with wineries from the Mornington Peninsula, King Valley, Nagambie and the Yarra Valley.

Stanton & Killeen is open seven days and is located at 440 Jacks Rd, Rutherglen, Victoria.
