Stand-up Comedy at Punk, Beijing - Punchline Comedy Club will kick off their seasons first performance at Punk at The Opposite House

The Opposite House

This September kicks off Punchline Comedys first show of the season in 2009/10. Each show features 3 different comedians, one of whom serves as compere to get the audience rolling in the aisles before the headliners take the stage. The players come from the Comedy Store of London, and many are familiar names from film and television in the West. Recent headliners have included the hilarious Mark Watson, venerated Edinburgh Festival host Andre Vincent and Paul Zerdin.

On Monday 28th September, Punchline at Punk will feature the exceptional talents of Karl Spain, Carey Marx and Mandy Knight.

Karl Spains concept show is broadcasted in his native Eire and matter-of-factly monikered Karl Spain Wants A Woman a show saw him date, romance and philander around the emerald isle. A veteran performer, he has taken his routine to the US, Middle East, Australia and England, graced the luminary lists of The Comedy Store, The Stand Up Show and The Late Late Show, and is an award winning short film producer, writer and director (Hero and Plane Tales, Bank Of Ireland Video Award winners).

"The future of Irish comedy is in safe hands" - Hot Press

Carey Marx slipped into showbiz at 19 years old as a world class sleight-of-hand magician before making the transition to stand up six years ago. Annual compere of the comedy tent at England's Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals, and bit-part star of The Jack Doherty Show, Slam and BBC's The Stand Up Show, his stand up routine is nothing less than an assault on owners of a conservative mindset. Marxs most recent routine focuses on the Top 10 Most Offensive Subjects In Comedy. Variously described as, "Risque," "A professional wind-up merchant," and a deliverer of, "Comedy of the most cerebral variety," Marx owes a weighty debt to the easily-offended, without whom he would not have been able to cavort so provocatively with the boundaries of what is acceptable, and what is not.

"Excellent - The Guardian

Mandy Knight is not only a hilariously unscrupulous and marginally detached comedienne, but also an graduate of Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art - the results of which lend her a decidedly affable and charming manner. The delivery of rabble-rousing lines such as, "She wasn't feminine... even her gynecologist called her 'sir'," and the admission that she quite likes, "Taking the piss out of old people, although they have bags that do that," however quickly puts aside any preconceptions that her dignified English lilt might provide any meaningful insight into what debauchery is afoot in her awry mind. The first female compere of The Comedy Store, star of Jo Brand's Like It Or Lump It, Love Time and The Baddiel Syndrome, and the winner of Time Out's Best Female Comic, Knight is a surefire bellyache-inducing mundane antidote and should be celebrated with all available gusto at every opportunity one has to go see her.

A virtuoso comedienne - The Independent

The inaugural show opens on Monday 28th September 2009 at 8.30pm prompt at Punk, with happy hour drinks beforehand from 6.30pm at Mesh. Tickets are priced at RMB 180, RMB 240 and RMB 290.
