16 Nov 2015
Bangkok, Thailand – November 16, 2015 – St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT), marked the Asia Pacific launch of 'Jazz Legends at St. Regis' with a marquee performance by Jamie Cullum, the award-winning musician and St. Regis Connoisseur, at The St. Regis Bangkok. Cullum performed before an intimate group of jazz aficionados at The Drawing Room, the hotel's stately lounge on November 12.
Launched earlier this year at The St. Regis Washington D.C., 'Jazz Legends at St. Regis' is an intimate set of jazz performances scheduled to take place at St. Regis properties around the world. The series celebrates contemporary jazz while simultaneously bringing a modern interpretation to beloved tunes played at the brand's flagship hotel in New York in the 1930s and 1940s. Throughout the Jazz Age, the Rooftop Ballroom at the iconic St. Regis New York hosted some of the finest jazz musicians in history with unforgettable performances from jazz greats like Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Buddy Rich. It is the rich musical legacy that makes jazz the enduring soundtrack of the St. Regis brand.
“Jazz is the quintessential American music genre which is deeply ingrained in the St. Regis legacy and we're thrilled to share our passion for jazz with the launch of 'Jazz Legends at St. Regis' in Asia Pacific,” said Fay-Linn Yeoh, Asia Pacific Brand Director, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts and The Luxury Collection. “Jazz is a great way for us to connect with our guests and we are delighted to entertain jazz aficionados and novices alike with innovative jazz programming and modern performances.”
In celebration of the brand's authentic ties to jazz, the 'Jazz Legends at St. Regis' series provides a platform for guests, residents and the local community to enjoy exclusive jazz performances by both celebrated musicians and emerging talent alike, curated together with Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC), the non-profit organization whose mission is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz. Following his performance in Bangkok, Cullum will take to the stage at the grand opening of The St. Regis Macao, Cotai Central on December 18, 2015. In addition to Bangkok and Macau, St. Regis will continue the Jazz Legends series with Jamie Cullum at several other St. Regis properties in Asia Pacific throughout 2016.
St. Regis continues its rapid expansion in gateway cities and resort destinations in Asia Pacific. With eleven properties in operation, St. Regis is on track to double its Asian footprint in the next five years. In 2016, St. Regis will add four new properties, including Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi in Malaysia, the Maldives and Changsha in China.
