St Michael’s Hotel & Spa today re-open Gyllyngvase Tennis Courts following a £40,000 renovation, having taken over the lease from Cornwall Council in 2012.

Recent improvements made to the facility by St Michael’s include refurbishing of the netting, fencing and the four playing surfaces. CCTV has been installed and floodlighting will be the next stage in the developments.

Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor of St Michaels Hotel & Spa hopes the renovation of Gyllyngvase courts will help to reinvigorate tennis in Falmouth and encourage more people to take up the sport, saying “I would love to see the whole of Falmouth celebrating Wimbledon fortnight by playing on the four new tennis courts at Gyllyngvase. Perhaps we have some Andy Murrays of the future within our own community!”

“We were delighted to take over the running of the tennis courts at Gyllyngvase Beach last winter. The courts needed fresh investment and impetus and we are pleased that Cornwall Council has chosen to lease them out to an us as an enthusiastic new partner.”

St Michael’s have recruited an experienced and talented top tennis coach – Tim Webster – and intend to run tennis leagues, coaching, and turn up & play sessions. 

Courts for single play are available at just £3.50 per person and £3 per person for doubles.
