Santiago, Chile,  (October 23, 2013) — With the South American spring season underway, the award-winning resort, Tierra Patagonia welcomes a range of new programs to enhance the guest experience, including new "agriturismo" experiences  at local estancia Cerro Guido, spa treatments designed for the outdoor adventurer, and a new chef that brings inspired ingredients to the hotel's dining room.  Tierra also launches Tierra Patagonia Private bespoke services designed to enhance a visit with one-on-one guides and customized transfer services.
One of Chile's most captivating luxury adventure hotels, the 40-room resort - sister property to the award-winning Tierra Atacama - occupies a premier location on the shores of Lake Sarmiento, at the entrance to Torres del Paine National Park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Tierra Patagonia boasts stunning views of the legendary Paine Massif, one of the most photographed landmarks of the Patagonian region.

Estancia Experiences
Tierra Patagonia has teamed with Cerro Guido, the second largest operating sheep ranch in the region, so guests can experience the historic traditions of a Patagonian ranch which still continue. Tierra Patagonia is located on part of the vast 250,000-acre Cerro Guido, which is home to 50,000 sheep, 5,000 heads of cattle, and 250 horses.  The experiences offered depending on the season, but include the following options:
 September - partial shearing of the ewes prior to birthing.
 October /November -  lambing season
 January/February - identification procedure; during the summer months, the sheep have a  small cut in the ear to identify them.
 Early December - branding of calves
 December/January - round-up and complete shearing. The Cerro Guido shearing takes place for about two weeks. Prior to the shearing, visitors can view the round-up of all the sheep with the gauchos and sheepdogs.    February/March - branding of the cattle.
 April/May - herding of the sheep for eye-shearing and washing prior to winter grazing

In addition to the agriturismo/ranch experience, the Cerro Guido estancia offers opportunities for exploration of some of the least visited and most biologically diverse areas of the region, featuring breathtaking views of Torres del Paine, Sierra Baguales, and Valle de las Chinas. "The Citadel" is a striking rock formation on the property with unique views towards the Paine massif, unique from other excursions. There are also points of archaeological and historical interest including the "Chenque," an indigenous cemetery mound located at the summit of Cerro Guido, where scientists have discovered human remains going back more than 700 years, which corresponds to the period of the initial native inhabitants of southern Patagonia, the "Aonikenk" (people of the south).

New Chef
This season, Tierra Patagonia welcomes one of Chile's leading chefs, Chef Pablo Galvez, the former chef de cuisine for the Embassy of Chile in France, and a member of the prestigious Chilean chapter of Les Toques Blanches. Galvez's style blends local Patagonian and Chilean ingredients with an international flare. His passion for his native culture is evident, and he is keen to reinvent the traditional Mapuche-style of cuisine. Galvez will use some of his favorite regional ingredients to create dishes including the following:

  • Garron of roast lamb accompanied by candied vegetables with puree of polenta
  • Southern hake with cream of avocado and shrimp flambé in pisco
  • Local King crab cake with tiramisu of Calafate, and pine nuts and caramelized rhubarb

UMA Spa Unveils New Spa Treatments
UMA Spa at Tierra Patagonia launches two divine body treatments which have been designed to restore energy and revitalize the body after strenuous outdoor activity. The Chua K'a and the Vortex Point massages have been taught throughout Chile by Bolivian philosopher Oscar Ichazo. The UMA spa is the perfect setting to enjoy a treatment for the mind, body, and soul surrounded by inspiring Patagonian landscape.
The Chua K'a massage technique originates in Mongolian legend, where warriors preparing for battle would undergo treatments to remove physical and psychic tension. An intense massage that combines Reiki, Thai massage stretching techniques, and reflexology, Chua K'a works to unblock and revitalize energy in 27 areas of the body and can reduce pain, restore mobility, and stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage. The treatment runs from the foot to the scalp, massaging the body with essential oils. Chua K'a is also a detoxifying massage technique that leaves a feeling of cleanliness and lightness, a perfect treatment to recover and restore energy after a strenuous day of trekking in the outdoor elements. Vortex Point massage is an acupressure massage that relaxes the body and strengthens the immune system. Designed by Oscar Ichazo, it consists of pressing 72 body points - from the toes to the tip of the head - each of them connected to the lymphatic and circulatory systems. The Vortex technique plays a triple role: It produces full-muscle relaxation, energizes the tissues, and triggers drainage of toxins accumulated in the nodes.
