SPLYT (justsplyt.com) launches next Monday, 13 April 2015, as the first and currently only dedicated instant minicab sharing app in the UK. It is celebrating its launch by providing Londoners the opportunity to enjoy 99p minicab rides for a whole week!*
SPLYT offers savings on fares of up to 40% for any customer that chooses to share their journey with another passenger travelling on the same (or similar) route at the same time.
Unlike other company that provide some form of ride sharing offering, SPLYT is the first and only dedicated instant minicab sharing app that affords the passenger complete control over whether to accept or decline a share request. SPLYT drivers manage incoming share requests via the SPLYT app, which instantly calculates the current passenger's saving and potential trip delay. These factors are communicated to the passenger, who then chooses whether or not to share the journey / fare.
SPLYT share requests can be submitted at the outset of a journey or en-route and fares will only ever be split for the mutually shared portion of any journey.
Customers are invited to share their SPLYT experience following each journey by awarding the driver a rating of up to five stars. Every SPLYT driver requires an average of four stars in order to take a SPLYT booking, ensuring the highest level of service, customer satisfaction and passenger safety.
Likewise, SPLYT customers are encouraged to review fellow passengers, in order to prevent the pairing of incompatible travelling companions. Customers who rated a passenger with less than three stars will never be matched with the same customer again.
With the promise of no surcharges, free in car Wi-Fi, a female-only sharing option and in-app payments with an integrated tipping system eliminating the need to carry cash, SPLYT has covered every base.
Founder and CEO, Philipp Mintchin said of the launch: “SPLYT solves a real problem for the commuting public today. Public transport can be unreliable, inconvenient, pricey and time consuming, whilst the cost of travelling in taxis or solo in minicabs is too expensive for most. One of the biggest innovations in the minicab space today, SPLYT launches at an exciting time with continued rapid growth in the sharing economy, which is reinventing all aspects of life. Our aim is for SPLYT to reinvent how we travel, empowering users to share a private driver and providing private transport without the price tag.”
CDO (Chief Driver Officer), John Preddy, added: “As well as providing a competitive and quality service for customers, we are very much focused on building a strong and friendly driver community. As the only company currently offering drivers up to 100% of their fare, SPLYT is truly looking out for their best interests, with a better deal for self-employed owner-drivers than any other taxi or minicab company.”
Available from Friday 10 April on iOS, and Android shortly after, the new SPLYT App is free to download and free to use.

About SPLYT:
Launching on 13 April 2015, SPLYT (justsplyt.com) is the first and currently only instant minicab sharing app on the market today. It is also the first and only minicab sharing app that affords the passenger complete control over whether to accept or decline a share request.
SPLYT offers savings of up to 40% for any customer that chooses to share their journey with another passenger travelling on the same (or similar) route at the same time.
While London is the focus for the launch, SPLYT looks to build an extensive national network, covering all major UK cities within the next two years.
SPLYT works directly with individual minicab drivers. All SPLYT drivers must be registered license holders, have held a driving license forat least three years and drive vehicles no older than six years. Every driver is consistently evaluated through SPLYT's integrated ratings system.
SPLYT is the brainchild of Philipp Mintchin, CEO, who was inspired by constant complaints from friends and family about the cost of travel in London.
App features, customer benefits and how SPLYT works:
- With a simple interface, SPLYT is available on iPhone (iOS) devices, and will soon be launching on Android. It is free to download and free to use.
- SPLYT share requests can be submitted at the outset of a journey or en route. Fares will only ever be split for the mutually shared portion of any journey.
- SPLYT drivers manage all incoming share requests via the SPLYT App, which instantly calculates the current passenger's saving and potential trip delay. These factors are communicated to the passenger, who then chooses whether or not to share the journey / fare.
- Customers submitting a share request are notified within 60 seconds as to whether or not a ride is available to split. Should there be no shared journeys available, customers can proceed with a 'solo' booking or can choose to resend a share request.
- Once matched to an available driver, the customer submitting a share request will receive the driver's details and the approximate arrival time at the designated pick-up point, in order to correctly identify the minicab and ensure passenger safety.
- Customers are invited to share their SPLYT experience following each journey by awarding the driver a rating of up to five stars. Every SPLYT driver requires an average of four stars in order to take a SPLYT booking, ensuring the highest level of service, customer satisfaction and passenger safety.
- Likewise, SPLYT customers are encouraged to review fellow passengers, in order to prevent the pairing of incompatible travelling companions. Customers who rated a passenger with less than three stars will never be matched with the same customer again.
- Female passengers are given the opportunity to opt for a 'Women Only' sharing option where they will only be matched with other female customers.
- The SPLYT booking system allows for simple, quick, in-app payments with pre-registered credit or debit cards or PayPal details, eliminating the need to carry cash.
- The app also features an integrated tipping system linked to the driver rating that is awarded by the passenger. A recommended SPLYT tip scale is suggested at 0%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% or 12.5% of the fare, for ratings of 1-5 respectively, making it quick and easy to calculate tips. However, this is not an automated system, affording the customer the ultimate discretion on every occasion as to whether or not, or how much to tip.
- Although the SPLYT proposition is to encourage sharing and saving, the app can also be used to travel solo, with the key advantage for solo travellers being the friendly SPLYT service, streamlined user experience and access to a soon-to-launch “SPLYT Miles” loyalty programme.
- The “SPLYT Miles” loyalty programme will be introduced in v1.1, scheduled for release 4-8 weeks after the official launch of SPLYT.
- Free in car Wi-Fi service is available for all SPLYT passengers.
- Unlike other minicab service providers, SPLYT does not add surcharge costs.
- At launch, SPLYT minicab shares will be applicable for a maximum of two passengers at any one time, with a view to integrating a 3-way minicab share capability at a later date, enabling potential savings of up to 57% for each passenger.
- SPLYT receives 10% commission on all solo fares. When a fare is split, all parties benefit: Whilst a nominal amount is added to the original fare to account for the additional drop off and journey time, both passengers benefit from a substantial discount on the original fare should they have travelled independently (up to 40% each). The driver will also benefit, by receiving the full price of the original fare rather than only 90% with a solo passenger, whilst the remaining portion on shared rides, which is variable according to the fare / journey, will make up the commission for SPLYT.
