Beach fronted Terme Beach Resort, Ravenna, is found in Emilia Romagna's Wellness Valley. Being situated above mineral rich thermal springs has given rise to the hotel's spa and wellness annex, Terme di Punta Marina Spa, offering treatments for both health and cosmetic reasons and an indoor swimming pool maintained at a constant 33 degrees.
THE THERMAL WATERS - Terme Beach Resort sits on 42-meter deep wells through which the water is brought up completely separate from the sea and its coastal infiltration. The spontaneous spring, calcium magnesium waters, whose therapeutic efficacy was recognised by the National Institute of Health in 1991, is exclusively used for all Terme's spa and health treatments.
These magnesium-rich waters work particularly well for the guests seeking osteoarticular (bones and joints), respiratory and otolaryngological (ear, nose and throat) treatments. Whilst the slimming, anti-oxidant and anti-stress treatments also benefit greatly from these same properties.
Other thermal treatments include massages, spa baths with sauna, Jacuzzi and the thermal swimming pool.
SPA TREATMENTS for the face and body, which include massages and saunas, can be used in a complementary fashion, focussing on the same aim – skin purification, anti-ageing, oxygenating. For example, there is a particularly effective sea salt scrub, followed by a single bath in a thermal Jacuzzi at 37 degrees.
Prices range from 20 Euros for a scrub, to 70 Euros for a 90-minute treatment, from 15 Euros for a single sauna, to one hour hot stone massages or Shiatsu for 50 – 60 Euros.
LAUNCH OF A NEW COSMETIC RANGE - So healing and pure are the thermal waters, that a new range of cosmetics has recently been developed for mothers, babies, men and women, featuring body creams, oils and shower gels. The therapeutic qualities of the waters have been combined with herbs and plants from Mediterranean scrub and are 100% Italian. These cosmetics can be purchased from the hotel.
WHAT IS WELLNESS VALLEY? - The Wellness Valley initiative aims to put 'Wellness and Quality of Life' at the heart of the Emilia Romagna region. Launched in 2002 by Nerio Alessandri, founder of Technogym, over the years this idea has gained momentum, creating a network of people and organisations focused on both improving the quality of life of residents as well as making the destination attractive to like-minded visitors.
ABOUT – Terme Beach Resort is a modern, single-storey wooden property located directly on a 50 to 80-meter wide sandy stretch of beach overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Prompting comparison with the architectural style of Cape Cod, this independent hotel prides itself on its high level of personal service and 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude. Its clean, simple lines and pared down décor are in sharp contrast to the abundance of things to do and places to visit in a one hour radius alone.
Aquatic activities include swimming, sailing, kayaking, kite and wind surfing, deep sea fishing and stand up paddling. On terra firma there is yoga, trekking, jogging, Nordic walking, cycling and bird watching.
Runners and walkers will be particularly interested to hear that the beach can be covered in 15 continuous kilometers (a 30km round trip). This is the only place on the Adriatic that this can be done. Other beach activities include horse riding, tennis and volleyball.
Needless to say there is also exceptional local food and wine to be savoured and shopping to be enjoyed – the ceramics are particularly distinctive.
Terme Beach Resort is also well situated for the Ravenna Festival and is the ideal place to be based for the season.
ACCESS - The nearest airport, reached in an hour by car, is Bologna, serviced by a number of daily flights including BA from Heathrow and Ryan Air from Stansted. The hotel also offers free return airport/hotel transfers for guests (minimum number three people).
