KARLSRUHE: Happy 300th Birthday!

Put June 20 in your diary now. In contrast to SouthWest Germany's half-timbered towns, Karlsruhe is strictly Baroque. One of the world's first 'planned cities' back in 1715, this gem is nicknamed the 'Fan City' for the streets that fan out from the palace. On June 20, the first of 400 birthday events kicks off a summer of dance, opera, art exhibitions and fun!

BAIERSBRONN: the FREE Black Forest bonus!

With 3 restaurants sharing 8 Michelin stars between them, Baiersbronn is unique. There's even a network of Black Forest hiking trails to burn off extra calories! But, NEW for visitors to Baiersbronn and nearby Freudenstadt is the “Schwarzwald Plus” card. Book in for two nights with a member of the Black Forest hotel association and the card is included. That's more than 80 FREE Black Forest experiences, from archery and swimming to baking a traditional Black Forest cake.

BAD MERGENTHEIM: wine + spa = perfect break

As well as SouthWest Germany's largest spa resort, Bad Mergentheim also has half-timbered houses and a grand medieval castle. Eat in inns and taverns; enjoy red and white wines from the surrounding vineyards. Enjoy the 180-year-old tradition of soaking in the mineral-rich, therapeutic spring waters.
