From hunting for chocolate eggs in Gabriel's Wharf to searching for missing bunnies on the EDF Energy London Eye, South Bank's many attractions, restaurants and shops are ready for Easter.
[London, 09 April 2014] – South Bank has prepared a programme to suit Easter enthusiasts of all ages this year, from chocolate and bunny hunts for the kids, to comedy at Udderbelly Festival or a traditional joint of lamb at Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar, London Marriott Hotel County Hall for the adults.
The purple upside-down cow that is Udderbelly returns to Southbank Centre in the lead-up to Easter, where it will stage a four-day stint of comedy shows, music, circus and family entertainment (10th-13th April). The Horne Section will see music mixed with stand-up comedy, and the festival programme is filled with well-known comedians such as Ed Byrne and Omid Djalili. Comedy Club 4 Kids will be back for a 4th year to provide family and kid-friendly entertainment, whilst juggling and circus stunts will also be featured, presented by SMASHED*.
For the youngest, Edwin the Easter Bunny is looking for children to help locate his missing friends in Bunnies on the Runat EDF Energy London Eye. Until 21st April, Edwin will be searching for his fellow bunnies who have gone on strike and taken all the Easter eggs with them. Kids will receive an activity pack and get to play detectives, discovering clues and facts about the landmarks visible from the Eye, whilst keeping an eye out for Edwin's bunnies. The independent design, craft and art shops of Gabriel's Wharf are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt from 7th April until Easter Monday, where chocolate eggs are scattered around the shops – if you see one it's yours to take. The egg hunting doesn't stop there, as Easter has also come to The London Dungeon, in the form of an “Eggcecutioner” who will meet and greet visitors. Thousands of eggs have been prepared for demonstrations of his skills with the axe and sword. On their journey through the Dungeon, visitors will follow a trail of “bad eggs”, to be noted on a Bad Egg Card. All successful egg hunters get a sweet treat at the shop, and will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a Merlin Annual Pass, worth £159.
South Bank's restaurants have also been preparing for Easter. Family-friendly L'Italiano is urging visitors to try Easter lunch the Italian way, with Tiramisu and Panna cotta desserts, giving the traditional lamb roast meal a L'Italiano twist. Gillray's Steakhouse & Bar is offering an Easter Joints Sharing Platter, tailored for a family of four. Guests can choose from beef, lamb or pork joints. For traditional hot cross buns, visitors can opt for Easter Afternoon Tea at London Marriott Hotel County Hall. Early booking is recommended.
To help visitors plan their Easter outings, South Bank London has released a handy guide, with all the details of what to do in the area during the holidays. The guide is accessible at southbanklondon.com/our-egg-cellent-easter-guide
