Sofitel Darling Harbour is proud to announce its partnership as the official Accommodation Partner of the Indigenous Fashion Projects' (IFP) Pathways Program, a transformative initiative run by the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) Foundation, designed to empower First Nations fashion designers across Australia.
Launched in 2020, the Pathways Program nurtures Indigenous-owned fashion labels by providing mentorship, industry exposure, and cultural exchange opportunities, helping designers to grow their businesses and gain national recognition.
Sofitel Darling Harbour's support underscores the critical role that the corporate sector can play in fostering cultural innovation and sustaining the arts. As part of the partnership, Sofitel Darling Harbour will provide accommodation during Australian Fashion Week (11–15 May) for six emerging Indigenous designers and their support team, offering them a premium platform to experience and connect with the broader fashion industry.
“Our commitment to the arts and First Nations culture is at the heart of what Sofitel stands for,” said Sam Panetta, General Manager of Sofitel Darling Harbour. “By supporting the Pathways Program, we are creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous designers, helping to amplify their voices and ensure their creativity is celebrated on a national stage.”
Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour also extends its support to Ngali, a distinguished Indigenous fashion brand and IFP Pathways Program laureate, as they showcase their collection during Fashion Week. This combined approach creates a full-circle platform: nurturing emerging talent while celebrating established Indigenous excellence.
“Pathways is more than a program - it is a two-way cultural exchange that bridges First Nations designers with the fashion industry, fostering knowledge, growth, and lasting impact,” says Claire Summers, Executive Director of the DAAF Foundation. “Sofitel's involvement demonstrates the power of corporate collaboration in supporting creative industries and the aspirations of our incredible Indigenous designers.”
“Sofitel is proud to provide a home for these designers during Fashion Week,” said Sam Panetta. “By connecting culture, community, and industry, we are reinforcing our commitment to Indigenous creativity and the arts in Australia.”
