The Social Media Tourism Symposium (SoMeT) is finally coming to Australia on 17-18 July 2013. SoMeT is social by nature; the social community selects and votes on major event elements starting with the host destination.
After many successful events in the USA, SoMeT Australia host submissions are now open and applications are coming in from many of the paramount Australian tourism destinations.
The SoMeT (pronounced so-me-tee) conference is designed to bring the digital destination marketing community together.
SoMeT is presented by Think! Social Media, a boutique tourism digital marketing agency who is working with Australian destinations to increase the social and digital presence of Australian DMOs.
Think! Social Media, Executive Director, Rodney Payne, says the agency is thrilled to bring the SoMeT conference to Australia, improving the profile of the Australian tourism industry.
"SoMet is a premier conference for tourism professionals looking to share ideas, network and discover opportunities in social media for destination marketing," Mr Payne says.
Interested tourism boards are now able to submit applications, showcasing why their destination is the best location for the first annual SoMeT Australia.
The top eight destinations' responses are chosen and go into a "play-off" competition via the Facebook platform. The SoMeT community will vote openly to select the host destination.
"We're thrilled to hear from the many Aussie destinations that want to host SoMeT next year. And the public vote is always a fantastic selection process and we think it will be really well received in Australia as well," Mr Payne says.
A detailed request for proposal (RFP) that outlines criteria and specific details of the event has just been released to potential Australian host destinations. The event RFP document can be accessed through the SoMeT Facebook fan page: facebook.com/sometourism.
