Snowmass, Colorado is delighted to announce a series of new and noteworthy events for Summer 2017, including a world-class concert line-up, new biking trails, a new dedicated hiking website, a new programme of activities for children, and much more.
NEW BIKING TRAILS
Snowmass debuts new and updated bike trails, adding to the 75 miles of terrain accessible from Snowmass Village. New for this Summer is the Seven Star Trail, while the Campground Connector Trail has been rerouted. The Snowmass Loop, a 24-mile loop, which offers a modern bike flow and unique features, returns as a favourite for locals and guests alike. Aspen Skiing Company also offers access to lift-served gravity trails and the Snowmass Bike Park seven days a week. The Snowmass Bike Park will be open late on Tuesdays from 11 July – 15 August to complement the Farm to Table dinner series at Elk Camp Restaurant. NEW HIKING WEBSITE TO BE LAUNCHED - HikeSnowmass.com
With 2.8 million adjacent acres just waiting to be explored, Snowmass embraces nature like no other destination. There are over 75 miles of hiking and running trails, and guests can explore fields of wildflowers or take in the views of the majestic Elk Mountains within moments of arrival. Snowmass Tourism is launching a brand new website for this summer – HikeSnowmass.com. The website will be dedicated to all things hiking; from expert advice on all the best trails in the area, including dirt and asphalt trails, easy and advanced routes, to where to get outfitted, the best places for snacks and lunch, and even where to buy sunblock. The site also lists resources and times for guided hikes, including ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies), the Wildflower Hike and the Ice Age Discovery Hike. HikeSnowmass.com will be the go-to location for any hiking adventure in Snowmass.
NEW SUMMER EVENTS
Snowmass offers an event nearly every weekend this Summer; from culinary and beer festivals such as the Snowmass Craft-Beer Rendezvous, Heritage Fire, and the Snowmass Wine Festival; to biking events like the Enduro World Series and VIDA MTB Series; and weekends for car enthusiasts such as the Motoring Classic & Car Club Week.
Three new events are featured this Summer including BLUEBIRD Art + Sound (30 June – 2 July), a world-class music and art event, featuring top name bands and artists; Yoga on The Mountain (11-13 August), a boutique yoga festival presented by Power Yoga Retreats, aimed at embracing the outdoors; and The Aspen Snowmass Vintage Car Race (14 September), the first vintage street race to occur in the mountains of Colorado in 19 years, featuring spec race cars from the 1960's and 1970's, part of the larger Motoring Classic & Car Club Week.
SUMMER FREE CONCERT LINE UP
This Summer's Snowmass Concert Series features 11 free concerts and two paid musical experiences - BLUEBIRD Art + Sound and the JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience. Starting on 10 June and ending on 9 September, the Snowmass Free Concert Series' highlights including Brothers Keeper featuring John Popper (22 June), Lucas Nelson (15 July), Freddy Jones Band (27 July), Otis Taylor Band (17 August), and many more. Highlights for the JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience (1-3 September) include Maroon 5, Keith Urban, Lake Street Dive, Hall & Oates, The Roots, and more.
NEW AT THE ICE AGE DISCOVERY CENTER
In 2010, during construction on the Ziegler Reservoir, located just beyond Snowmass Village, workers uncovered what became the finest high-elevation ice age fossil site in the world. Over 6,000 large bones and 30,000 small bones belonging to 52 species of vertebrate animals were found. The Ice Age Discovery Center, a free experience dedicated to the find, continues to evolve with new casts of the original bones found at Ziegler Reservoir. Now on display at the Ice Age Discovery Center are Ms. Bumpy Head, a cast of the largest mastodon skull found, and the cast of a male femur bone. This is the first time these casts have been on display at the Ice Age Discovery Center.
NEW SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS & KIDS
New for Summer 2017, Blazing Adventures is offering an enhanced version of the Mass Pass. The Mass Pass is a three or five day activity pass, which includes activities such as rafting, horseback riding, bike trips, sunset dinners, and more. The pass allows guests to choose three days of activities for $350/guest or five days of activities for $550/guest. Guests have the option to choose either a full day activity or a morning and afternoon activity for each consecutive day while using the pass. The Mass Pass offers over $250 in savings from booking activities à la carte, ideal for guests looking to get more than one great adventure out of their vacation.
The Snowmass Rodeo is celebrating their 44th season this summer, one of the longest running rodeos in Colorado. The rodeo runs on Wednesday evenings from 14 June through 23 August, and includes saddle bronco and bull riding, team roping, and barrel racing. Children can participate in the popular 'Calf Scramble and Mutton Bustin'.
Children visiting Snowmass can take their pick from a wide array of kids' day camp opportunities. This Summer, Camp Smashbox is offering three new camps – superhero, tribal, and island camps.
