Snap Happy Brits Name Cameras As Their Holiday Essential

Survey reveals Brits latest pre-holiday prep habits

Despite the epidemic of Smartphone's, the love affair with mobiles has seemingly taken a back seat. A survey conducted by the UK's leading online  travel agent On the Beach, reveals almost a quarter of Brits are choosing a camera as their holiday essential , compared to just 21% opting for their mobile phone.

Regardless of the rapid development of high tech cameras in mobile phones, these results suggest holidaymakers are still not willing to capture their precious holiday snaps through mobile devices. With the 'old fashioned' camera also undergoing tech transformations, it's clear the majority of holidaymakers prefer to play the professional and pack their trusty cameras.

The increasingly popular e-book readers and tablets are items that'll be left on the shelves this winter, as many Brits preparing to jet off in search of winter sun are opting for paper books and magazines (12%) as their holiday essentials, over their tech counterparts (10%).

Pack and go

When it comes to packing, it's the younger generation that aren't risking pulling any 'all-nighters,' with one in five 18-24 year olds starting to stuff  their cases one month before jetting off abroad, compared to just 7% of 45-54 year olds.

Confident in the knowledge of their pre-holiday routine, 45-54 year olds are the most likely to leave packing their cases until the day they are due to fly, with not a single 18-24 year old admitting to packing last minute.

Results of the survey also reveal, it's men proving most keen when it comes to packing with one in 10 starting a month before compared to just 8% of women.

More men (93%) than women (92%) state clothing is one of the most important elements to packing. In addition to the fashion conscious fellas, the increase of the 'modern man' is proving ever more evident with one in six admitting cosmetics are at the top of their packing priorities.

Spending habits

As millions of Brits turn their attention to bagging a bargain winter sun holiday, it would seem no expense is spent on pre-holiday items, with a whopping one in six holidaymakers spending less than £100 before going away.

The survey reveals those from the East Midlands are the thriftiest with a quarter of holidaymakers from the region spending £10 or less. On the contrary it's the Northern Irish who are more liberal with their cash before jetting off to sunnier shores, with a huge 36% spending more than £100 on items just for their holiday.

Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach comments, “It's refreshing to see holidaymakers opting for cameras over mobile phones as their holiday essential. Over the past couple of years, cameras have developed into sleek, smart, fashion accessories and are more affordable than ever, allowing many of us to snap professional quality shots.  It's also interesting to see that the influences from well-polished male celebrities are having an increasing impact on modern men, who are now proving ever more conscious of their holiday wardrobes and pre-holiday prep.”
