Small is Bigger Than Ever

Travel Portland

Caravan, the nation’s first tiny house hotel, continues to draw visitors intrigued by small-scale living and cozy comfort. This popular concept is spreading, giving more Pacific Northwest visitors (not to mention locals on a staycation) an opportunity to sample a leaner, greener lifestyle.

Tiny Digs Hotel is taking shape in the Kerns neighborhood, near Northeast 28th Avenue and Burnside Street. Thirteen custom-built tiny houses will transform a former car lot into an oasis, circling a gathering area anchored by a fire pit, outdoor art, comfy seating and twinkling lights. Live entertainment and guest food carts are planned for those seeking a night “in,” but stellar food and drink options are only a quick jaunt away, and include Migration Brewing, Tabla, PaaDee, Ken’s Artisan Pizza,Alma Chocolate and Staccato Gelato. Each tiny house is fully furnished and self-contained, with private decks for lounging. Reservations are being accepted for October and on.

Mt. Hood Tiny House Village in Welches will appeal to those seeking a tranquil overnight stay in natural surroundings. Less than an hour outside of Portland, the new lodgings are within range of the city’s food, art and culture, but also in the thick of exhilarating outdoor adventures. The five units offer full baths, kitchens and accommodations for up to five guests.
