Powder Byrne, the specialist family travel operator, is launching its NEW bespoke programme incorporating some eastern skiing in the resort of Niseko in the north of Japan.  The programme includes a 4 to 5 day skiing experience in the mountains, followed by a further 4-5 days visiting the stunning cultural region to be found near Kyoto and Tokyo further south. 

This 'Eastern Skiing in Japan' programme offers keen skiers a completely different region to experience, and Powder Byrne has developed a well structured programme in Niseko, where some of the lightest powder snow in the world is to be found. This region offers sking to suit all levels, both on piste as well as guided back country itineraries, heli-skiing, CAT skiing and snowmobile touring. Recommendations to be included in an 'Eastern Skiing in Japan' programme would be:

  • After arriving in Japan, venture on a short flight to Chitose, located on the north island before being transferred to the Niseko ski region.
  • Ski across a rich variety of terrain which is to be found in the four resorts on the same mountain at Niseko, often skiing amongst the trees in the beautiful  winter woods.
  • Enjoy a day's heli-skiing, CAT skiing or snowmobile touring
  • Take a short flight to Osaka and then travel to Kyoto to commence an enriching experience visiting the cultural highlights of Kyoto.
  • Visit the ancient city landmarks such as the Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion) and Ginkaku-ji (The Silver Pavilion).
  • Spend a morning visiting one of the most celebrated temples in Japan, Kiyomizu-dera temple, located halfway up Otowa Mountain and surrounded by stunning views of the cherry and maple trees below.
  • Catch the legendary high speed train to Tokyo from Kyoto station, before being transferred to a luxury hotel.
  • There is so much to see in Tokyo and at least two days is recommended to visit some of the highlights that this amazing city has to offer, such as the Tsukiji Fish Market or  the Imperial Meiji Shrine – known for its spirits being dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken.
  • Time should be taken for some well earned rest and relaxation in the hotel or for taking a walk around the stunning  Yoyogi Park or Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, not forgetting sampling the delicious Japanese cuisine in the many restaurants to be found.
