The 2013 winter season may be drawing to a close, but the year of wintersports has just begun. Britain's elite team of skiing and snowboarding athletes continue to push towards the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. Following a series of impressive results, the race is on to qualify for the Games and compete on the largest wintersports stage in the world.
The Ski Club of Great Britain will be following the athletes throughout their journey, providing the latest news updates, twitter feeds, profiles and information on the brand new web pages: skiclub.co.uk/britisheliteathletes
Chief Executive of the national governing body British Ski and Snowboard, Dave Edwards said: "We have a pool of inspirational and talented athletes whose desire to compete in Russia is immense. Ski halfpipe and ski slopestyle will debut at the 2014 Games and there are very promising prospects in the British Team such as James Woods, currently ranked world no.1 in Slopestyle. It's fantastic to see the athletes receive the recognition and support they deserve on the Ski Club of Great Britain's web pages and we hope this source of information will drive others to get behind the teams."
Ski Club of Great Britain's CEO Frank McCusker said: "Despite their phenomenal talent, very few wintersports athletes receive funding directly from UK Sport. The Ski Club want to help these athletes compete against the well-funded competitors from other nations. We will donate £10 of every membership made through the new website pages to the British Ski and Snowboard teams and hope the new site will encourage others to follow the athletes and show their support."
Those wishing to donate to the British Ski and Snowboard teams and the Disabled Ski team can do so through the new website pages at: skiclub.co.uk/britisheliteathletes
Not only do Britain's wintersports athletes have a real chance of achieving podium results at the Olympics but they could inspire more people to take up wintersports.
