One Golfer Makes History

COZUMEL, MEXICO (May 28, 2014) –  For the first time in the history of the Cozumel Island Golf Tournament there was a Hole in One winner.  Deby Beard, renowned broadcast journalist and wine connoisseur, played a great game, winning the Hole In One, along with Closest to The Pin and First Birdie.  Ten-year-old Nicolas Peláez, the youngest golfer ever in the tournament, with a handicap of 15, came in third place Closest to the Pin at Hole 8.

                Golfers from around the globe gathered for a weekend of golf-related activities May 2-4 at Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, including the tournament at the prestigious Cozumel Country Club golf course.   Sponsors supporting the tournament included IHG, Office Depot, Mont Blanc, Lacoste, Club Corp, Expo Golf, Olympus Tours, Mundo Cuervo, Interjet, Copa Airlines, Avianca Airlines and many others.  With the slogan "Helping Is A Hole in One," a featured Putting Tournament event also raised funds for the local Cozumel Autism Center, to be utilized for building materials, facilities and staff training.
