KE Adventure Travel was honoured to welcome Sir Chris Bonington to officially open their brand new offices based in Keswick in the heart of the stunning Lake District. As patron of KE's long standing partner charity The Juniper Trust, Sir Chris was joined by the charities founder Angela Locke, the Mayor of Keswick, KE leaders past and present, local business partners, KE staff and the local press to celebrate this significant milestone in their 31 year history.
KE first arrived in Keswick in 1986 and moved into 32 Lake Road and opened up "the "Trekkers Lodge" café and bunkhouse for travellers. Most of the KE staff lived on the top two floors from where they ran "The Karakoram Experience" a trekking tour operation that was mainly based in Pakistan, India and Nepal. As the company expanded the café and bunkhouse made way for 25 staff to run what is now known as "KE Adventure Travel". From its humble beginnings in the dramatic Karakoram mountains, KE now take up to 5000 clients a year on a choice of 400+ adventure holidays all over the world.
After 29 years of working in the small confined spaces of 32 Lake Road the new offices are a revelation, with two large open plan floors and a top floor spacious meeting room. It took eight months to convert the building which had been previously been used as a Tea Pottery and an Indian Restaurant. The new modern office now has 29 staff and is equipped with the latest technology, which includes over a mile of cable!
