Single supplements - we're sorry but it's over.
We all know the solo travel market is surging, with more than a third of Britons now holidaying alone. Yet the response from tour operators is painfully lagging.
At Vidados we decided it was high time something was done to remedy this, so June this year we launched a 'ban the single supplement campaign' with our holiday creators.
Now over 60% of our holidays have ditched the pesky price add-on or are offering same sex shared rooms.
We knew this move would please our travel community said Vidados founder and CEO Vanessa Lenssen, but the response has been overwhelming. Since the shift there's been a 40% increase in solo travel bookings and a 60% increase in solo travel enquiries.
"There is a huge demand for solo trips that go beyond forced bonding tours and faceless hotels with supplements. Our holidays offer a chance to meet like-minded people, connect with locals and try something new." Lenssen said.
Today we've got over 400 singles activity holidays, and this is growing daily.
Popular solo trips range from a fitness holiday in Tuscany, to a multi-activity holiday Portugal, night photography in Fuerteventura to cooking and walking in the Spanish Pyrenees.
About Vidados
Vidados is a global activity holiday marketplace connecting people directly with local, independent holiday creators offering holidays less ordinary.
The site was launched beta in January this year, by Vanessa Lenssen with the help of the former ASOS marketplace head developer Gareth Thackeray. The aim of the platform is to make it easy to find and book the most unusual, innovative and remarkable activity holidays that are difficult to find and often impossible to book online.
Every holiday is chosen because it offers a reason to travel. There are no add-ons, tour operators, or run-of-the-mill day experiences.
Vanessa Lenssen is available for interview and comment on request.
