Singapore Welcomed Over a Million Australians

Singapore Tourism Board

Singapore received over a million Australian visitors in 2013, an increase of 7% over the previous year.

Based on the recent visitor arrival figures, 1,125,000 travellers from Australia visited the island city-state from January to December 2013.

Within the global tourism sector, Singapore continues to be an attractive destination with International Visitor Arrivals (IVA) standing at 15.6 million for 2013, representing a strong 7% year-on-year growth.

Australia has successfully maintained its position as the fourth international visitor-generating market, following Indonesia (3,089,000), China (2,270,000) and Malaysia (1,281,000).

Global tourism receipts have also been on the increase with a 2% rise year-on-year, ending 2013 on an accumulative total of S$23.5 billion. Australia noted a positive 4% increase contributing S$1.078 million, and also maintaining fourth position within the top generating markets globally.

Sharon Lam, Area Director Oceania, commented: “We're thrilled that increasingly more Australians are visiting our city and we're excited to present the diverse range of experiences, from food, entertainment and attractions through to cultural festivals and nightlife that Singapore offers all-year round. In 2014, we want to continue telling more Aussies why Singapore should be included when planning their next holiday.”

Singapore's year-round calendar of events and festivals will soon look to attract more Australians than ever before, particularly with the energetic sporting scene stepping up. 2014 will welcome the popular Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix (19 – 21 September), and the inaugural Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Championship (17 – 26 October) which will be held at the new Singapore Sports Hub. This new venue is set to be one of Asia's most inspiring destinations for world-class sports and entertainment.

With Aussies seeking to experience a destination just like a local, Singapore's many precincts allow visitors to become immersed in cultural diversity and experience the best that the city has to offer. From mouth-watering food options, off the beaten track boutique shops and an energetic nightlife, Singapore is an unparalleled destination that offers Australians a rich and colourful experience.
