Sweden, 22 February 2017: Simply Sweden (01427 700115; www.simplysweden.co.uk), the Scandinavian travel specialist, has launched two new island adventures for summer in the remote Faroe Islands and Gotland. Plus flights from Edinburgh make these an easy option for those based in Scotland.

The self-guided seven-night walking trip Faroe Islands – Walking Holiday explores the rugged, invigorating landscape of these isles in the North Atlantic. Part of the Kingdom of Denmark and with a deep-rooted Scandinavian culture, the Faroes will appeal to hikers, nature-lovers and birdwatchers.

Travelling between the islands by ferry, guests will stay in the capital Tórshavn, as well as towns and villages such as Tvøroyri on the island of Suðuroy, where they can immerse themselves in big nature. On arrival, guests will be provided with descriptions of walking routes that they can follow at their own pace.

On Suðuroy, for example, the hike to Hvannhagi offers beautiful views over the islands of Lítla Dímun and Stóra Dímun, while Mykines is known for its more challenging walks and rich bird life – including puffins and gannets – as well a thriving seal population.

Faroe Islands – Walking Holiday costs from £1,355 per person, including seven nights' B&B based on two sharing a double or twin room, return flights from Edinburgh to Vagar and car hire. Available from May to September.

Meanwhile, the new seven-night Gotland at Leisure is a two-centre holiday that allows guests to experience all that the popular Swedish holiday destination of Gotland has to offer. Sweden's largest island, set in the Baltic Sea, south of Stockholm, packs in 800km of stunning coastline, a national park and more than 100 nature reserves.

Splitting their time between city and country, guests spend the first three nights in the well-preserved capital, Visby – a Unesco World Heritage Site with a rich Viking history dating back to the 12th century. Next, the small but stylish Hotel Stelor, housed in a converted 18th-century farmhouse, is a great base for exploring the varied landscape of long, sandy beaches with their eerie stone stacks, dramatic cliffs, and the protected bog and marshland.

Gotland at Leisure costs from £1,350 per person, including seven nights' B&B based on two sharing a double or twin room, return flights to Visby, transfers and car hire. Available June, July and August.

Notes to editors:

Simply Sweden began selling holidays in 2006 and has become one of the UK's leading tailor-made tour operators to Scandinavia; in 2016, it added the Faroe Islands, in the Kingdom of Denmark, to its range of destinations. The company, founded by Chris and Karin Graham, draws on the inside knowledge of its small Sweden-based team, gained from travelling extensively across the territories, to create itineraries that offer customers the best experiences and deliver a genuine insight into the Scandinavian way of life.
