Dartington Hall

Set within a 1200 acre estate, Dartington Hall, a Grade I listed venue in the tranquil Devon countryside, is the ideal venue to host a spectacular line up of events, courses and festivals throughout the year. This Spring, Dartington Hall is proud to announce Simon Weston CBE will visit this prestigious venue for his finale show 'My Life, My Story' on Saturday April 9th in aid of his newly formed charity Care After Combat.

Truly inspirational and honest, Simon Weston CBE will share his journey from the front line of the Falklands war, being on the edge of death, to today a happy and contented Father, Grandfather and national treasure. Hosted by BBC Radio Devon Presenter, and Simon's closest friend David Fitzgerald, it is guaranteed to be a fascinating evening filled with laughter and some poignant moments.

Commenting on this compelling event, Tej Walia, General Manager of Dartington Hall said, “It's a huge honour to have Simon Weston CBE conclude his UK tour at Dartington Hall. We warmly welcome our national hero and are very much looking forward to a thought-provoking evening”.

Utterly unique in the area, Dartington Hall is a social enterprise venue, whereby society not the business profits, and has a long history of using its land and activities to provide learning opportunities and entertainment for all ages and interests. With an abundance of other captivating events and courses available throughout the year from Dartington Food Festival, fly fishing breaks, digital photography and floristry workshops to a five day 'Wild Craftival' on the River Dart or soon to launch, 'A Farmer for a Day' experience, there is something for everyone. Not forgetting a year-long film programme shown in Dartington Hall's remarkable 14th Century Barn Cinema plus 'Ways with Words' literary festival.

Notes to Editors

  • Extremely accessible, within easy driving reach of Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth, Dartington Hall is the only medieval manor house in England.
  • Rich in history, Dartington Hall has existed for over a thousand years, mentioned in the Royal Charter of 833 and again in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Elmhirst family bought the estate in 1925 when it was badly run down and most of the Great Hall was in ruins. They spent much time and money restoring the estate to its former glory and building additional properties within the grounds.
  • Simon Weston CBE is a Falklands war veteran. In one of the most horrific moments of the Faulklands conflict, the RFA Sir Galahad was bombed by two Argentine planes, aboard at the time was Simon Weston CBE. Simon managed to escape the burning and buckled ship, but only after suffering 46% burns to his body. Today Simon is seen as the most recognised veteran from the conflict, and for the last twelve months he has been sharing his story, in his words with theatre audiences across the country.
  • After Combat helps to maintain and promote camaraderie in the Veterans community for those feeling vulnerable or at unrest with society. The charity looks to provide professional assistance where possible for the well-being of the Veteran and their family.
