The Budock Vean’s legendary “house-party” Christmas celebrations are especially Silvery this year as the Barlow family celebrates 25 years of owning, running and refurbishing this stunning country house hotel on the Helford River.
The Festive period at the Budock Vean is always a magical time for families with many guests returning year after year to soak up the warm, relaxed atmosphere and sensational Christmas fare. And this year they’ll be snuggling down into even more comfort and elegance as a December re-vamp of the fireside lounges adds an extra sparkle to the general feasting and festivities.
There is a seasonal something for every generation from brass bands and carol singers to magicians and Santa himself, along with a succession of splendid, locally-sourced gourmet extravaganzas including Christmassy dinners with all the trimmings and a Grand Buffet for the real trencherman or woman. Think best and freshest Cornish meat and game, fish and shellfish, all the finest products from the woods and fields, seas and rivers of this lovely county.
For those extending Christmas into “Twixmas” and New Year pastry chef Colin Root is inviting guests into the kitchen on December 30 to share the secret of his granny’s delicious scone recipe - so they can take the know-how for the perfect Cornish Cream Tea home with them.
“Christmas is one of the highlights of our year,” says Martin Barlow, whose parents Barbara and Ted bought the hotel 25 years ago and whose daughters Hannah and Molly are often on hand to help with the Budock Vean merry-making.
“Everyone is here to enjoy themselves and because so many of our guests know each other from previous visits there’s a real house-party feel of friends getting together for the festivities. And as part of our family’s Silver Celebrations we’ll be unveiling our newly refurbished lounges which will add a fresh elegance to the traditional fireside cosiness our guests love.”
For guests who can tear themselves away from those comfy sofas, the Budock Vean has plenty of ways to work off the festive food and drink with golf competitions, archery and bowling, swimming in the large pool with its roaring open fire, outdoor hot-tubbing, tennis or the luxuries of the Natural Health Spa.
There are also some of the country’s most scenic coastal and country walks outside the hotel’s front door – not least through its 65 acres of grounds and sub-tropical gardens to the Helford – so guests should end their holidays feeling relaxed, expertly fed and fit for the New Year ahead.
Christmas at the Budock Vean is from £750 per person for a three night stay. For more information see www.budockvean.co.uk or ring 01326 252100.
