The winter of 2003-2004 saw an unprecedented lineup of old passenger ships gathered on the beach of Alang, India, for scrapping; a fate that the Queen Mary, now a hotel and attraction, was able to escape in the late 60s. Peter Knego was able to visit and document the sad scenario in February of 2004, despite a ban on cameras in the region. The lecture will feature a final visit to some old Favorites, explain how ships are taken apart and recycled and highlight recovered treasures, some of which will be available for purchase along with Peters latest THE WORLDS PASSENGER FLEET videos.
Peter Knego is a classic passenger ship preservationist and a well-known writer, lecturer, videographer and photographer of passenger vessels. He has traveled the globe documenting ships new and old, has written countless articles for maritime and shipping magazines, and is Contributing Editor of Maritime Matters.
